If you were buying your next car and you could get a hybrid electric - diesel model which would save money over lets say 5 years but not that much really, and cost 5k/$8k more than the petrol version, would you do it? The real benefit would be in carbon emissions rather than your pocket

You might want to add another option: "I'm Not Sure".

I would. If there was a hybrid car out there that met my needs.

I really dont want to uscwest because everyone would choose that option :) I want an actual decision like you'd have to make if you were in that position

I say people wont pay that much if the only benefit was it was green but others in the office say they would

talk is cheap of course until youre in the showroom

OK, given those choices, if it isn't going to save me much then I am most likely NOT going to buy one but not for the reason that you might suspect. Every green car I have looked at lately has most of the trunk/luggage room taken up by the batteries thus, for me, taking away valuable space.

Yes, I would. I am anxiously awaiting the Chevy Volt. Supposedly coming out in 2010. I know GM can't wait, they are hurting pups! I can go 40 miles without even starting its aux engine. That would take me to work and back with just an overnight charge. Article below:

If it was no more expensive then we would but we couldnt afford to pay 5000 more just to be green
