My Fuji point and shoot is sometimes having trouble turning on. I hit and hit and hit the power button but nothing happens, then I'll hit it again and it turns on. Does that sound a like a battery problem? I don't want to buy a replacement battery if that does not sound like the problem.

Not enough info to make a call :( it could be a dodgy power button, a dodgy circuit board or yeah a dodgy battery.

Yeah, I know. It could be a half dozen things. :( Maybe I should just look for a different camera.

well depends on the cost of the new battery I'd say :/ you may find a store willing to let you try one :/

Billie, I think that might be something endemic with Fujis. I have an S5000. I have to turn it off then on to get the camera to awaken. I think you can play with the power save feature in your menu. Give that a try. I have just gotten jused to switching it off and on..

Can you not buy one, try it, and if it works- good stuff, if not, take it back to the store?

I haven't really seen the battery at the store, but I have to admit I haven't looked that hard. Sadly I tend to buy most things online. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try and if it doesn't just return it.
