    No, it is yet another 'stealth tax' , cant afford to sell mine now even if I wanted to and noone wants them as they are in the top band - we need to drive so we have to pay. Plus all the additional cost of the tax on fuel as well - they get away with it by marketing t as 'gree; but it is no such thing.

    I only hope this is one of the taxes they cut in their current 'review'

    What is a car tax?
    We have license and registration here (car license plates, I mean) that have an annual fee depending upon the type of plate you have (and if it's personalized or a specialty plate). The cost is no where near that though!

    I think we pay about $80 a year for two cars?

    It is the tax we pay to be able to drve the roads they base the cost on the size of the car and the emissions it produces - which effectively meant everyone paid more - the spin was that we would all buy greener cars but clearly if everyone scrapped their car and bought a new one then the carbon cost would also be 'quite high'

    Our cars aren't listed but no doubt it'll go up from what we're paying now.

    We are lucky we only have a small car so our tax is staying the same next year and then going up 5 a year.

    Our friends have a galaxy so there's is going up a lot :sigh;

    Thanks for the clarification.

    When you move from one state to another, some states levy a one time "impact fee." Still not the same as a yearly tax, though.

    My dad just downgraded from a Lexus is200 sport, so he's going to be laughing all the way to the bank now!
    Only downside is he bought quite a big car (for Niamhs arrival, old one really wasn't suitable for a baby!) ... a ford s-max 57.
