I got my first passport photos done in a Woolies machine.

Bought my first ever 7" single in there - Billy Don't Be A Hero

First ever album - Grease soundtrack

Spent many a Saturday hanging with friends in Woolies looking through the posters.

It's an institution. It must be saved.

It's starting to get quite annoying hearing all the politicians explain why the financial sector is so much more important to save than the retail. I think it's more than a bit strange that we should give so much tax payers money to banks so they can lend it back to us at expensive rates and yet we're going to let such an iconic UK retailer go without *any* help at all :/

Im usually all for market forces but this feels like the politicians don't have as many friends working at woolies as they do for the banks (and I guess being on the board at woolies as a thanks for helping doesnt quite hold the same appeal as being given a place on the board of an investment bank with multi million pound christmas bonusses)

    Very sad

just got back from town, spent the gift card ok. the shop was absolutely crowded. i bought a disney princess pop up book with music for 1.00 - there was no price but one of the staff pointed it out to me as she walked past i noticed quite a few reductions and i something i bought which was 4.00 rang up on the till as 2.00,

there were a *lot* of shop floor staff and managers/supervisors and i overheard a 'let's stay positive' conversation.

i asked the checkout girl whether she knew anything about their jobs and she said all they know is they still have their jobs right now, the customers are coming in and they're trying to stay positive.

My BF used to work on the "deli" (think spam) counter in the early 80's. It is very sad. So many jobs .
Now if we do a "secret" buyout. Can i be on the Tannoy. I can do a very good telephone/tannoy voice and i can chew gum and do a great "can't be bothered voice"

I also bought my first single record at Woolies. Now, in our town ,there will be nowhere to buy CD's, DVD's etc if they close. It is actually the biggest shop we have right now.
