    Venus was cool!

Using the maximum magnification (skywatcher: using the x2 Barlow lens and the 10mm eyepiece), and a moon filter we could easily see it...

It looked like a small version of 3/4 moon

    ... 'nuff said

Ooooo, that's an option. Cats can maintain it's mouse free status

I have seen squirrels and jays through my 'scope today. Not very universal but a LOT more closer than through binockers Sammy Squirrel has a broken toenail

Yes, and we'll just move down there and all the bad weather will move down there, and the good weather somewhere else....

Perhaps we just need to be ready to go to wherever the clear skies are. Anyone here got a helicopter?

pah clouding over here - how is it with you Dawn - shame as orion should be a bit higher by now.

No you wouldn't see the changing phases of venus at 10x but you can see star clusters, comets, the andromeda galaxy as a milky smudge and the bright nebulas. - helps you learn your way around - portable and cheap.

the magnification thing - each eyepiece ( thing you stick in the end) has its own focal length in mm and the telescope hasa focal length as well - to get the magnification you divide the focal length of the telescope by the focal length of the eyepiece

i.e if your telescope hs a FL of 800 mm ( writen on the side) and the eyepiece has 32mm written on it then the maginification is 800/32 = 25x magnification

if you stick a 2x barlow between the scope and the eyepiece you will get 50x magnification

as you get into the hobby you will want a greater range of magnifications - more isn't always best and if you overmagnify an object it will appear feint and blurred and wobbly - some of the best detail I have seen on jupiter was at 125x - pushin it up to x200 made it bigger but i could no longer see the red spot

As you get more into it - you will learn to 'see' and you will start to see more detail - takes a while tough

you will never see any detail on venus but you will see its phase
