I am having a problem with my disc drive. It will not read any discs I put in. Tried photo files, music and games. The green light shows for a few seconds as the draw closes but nothing else happens. If I open the "My Computer" page and click on the disc drive it says please put disc in. Clicking on "Run" from the start button is also a no-go.
Anyone got any ideas on what to do next, please?

Try one of those cd/dvd cleaner discs but if no go it may be time to replace the drive

(similar symptoms CAN sometimes be software related and a good way to check for that is to see if you have a bootable CD for example the operating system disk that came with your machine and see if you can boot into it. If you can't then you really are down to checking the cabling which will almost certainly be fine, and buying a new drive)

Have you put jam in it my kids do and that has happened once - the other time was when the drive just went and wouldn't spin the discs

a replacement was surprisingly cheap and easy to put in though
