that someone/client used a database where they work to get your home phone number from not your but your children's records to ring you about a work related matter - what would you do?

i'm flippin fuming, can't go into many details for obvious reasons but i have to decide

    1. whether to go down official channels and get someone to make an official complaint for me and said client 'could' lose her job.

    2. Ring her boss and tell him and stop using said establishment. She could possibly lose her job too.

    3. ring her up and give her a rocket.

Has to be official channels - that's a serious breach of the Data Protection Act.

Pretty much any job I've had has involved confidential client records and privacy is ingrained in how I think. So for me, any misuse of a database, even if they don't realise they've done wrong, is extremely serious. Perhaps the best thing would be to handle it personally and give her the chance to apologise but I'd be making an official complaint.

I know people will think it's an over reaction but everything about everyone is on a database somewhere and that's scary enough without misuse of the information on a frivolous basis.

    Guilt? Or anger?

Seriously that has to be reported through official channels.

not really. If they lose their job it's because of the actions that they chose to take, not your reporting of it IMHO
