I've had my Rebel for 3 or 4 years and I love love love it. Of course, I got it when it was expensive..now they're very reasonable. As for lenses, I have the one that came with the camera 18 - 55 , and one with the film Canon 35 - 75, and a 70 - 200. THAT one is awesome for those upclose and personal shots of wolves, bears, birds, you know..stuff you don't want to get too close too

absolutely! in full auto, you won't notice any difference except for better quality usually :)

I have a Sony A200, absolutely brilliant entry level dslr. It comes with a slightly longer lens than the Canon too (18-70mm). Also, all Minolta lenses fit it as Sony brought them out as an antry into the dslr market.

On a photo site they said the Rebel XS was the same as the EOS 1000D

Why can't the names just be simple. You know, like Rebel 1, Rebel 2, Rebel 3...you get the point.

I so utterly agree there Brit, it gets entirely too confusing.

RE: me and another Nikon. I am trying not to be bitter. I know that one should not let one incident cloud an entire brand...but really, it was their customer service that I've taken exception with more than their quality at this point. I mean let's face it, all brands put out a dud now and again, own up to it, take it off the market and make it right for the customer...easy as that. But right now I have a $400 door stop with the Nikon name on it, and I'd be hard pressed to convince myself it's a good idea to purchase something from them again.

Off to research some more :)

completely agree. Although I've had great support and service from them, they've been worse than useless for you

Then again and in equal fairness, although I've had more actual problems with Canon kit, I've had excellent service and support from them too
