Hi all since you all seem to know so much about these things, whats the best slr camera to get for a newbie

we've only ever had small ones but would like to get used to a really good one before our next trip

will there be a huge learning curve or are they easy to use for simple stuff?

most people seem to like canon or nikon but I see a lot of adverts for other makes, how do we even start to decide which is best for us?

finally is it better to buy a camera in the uk or orlando

hi tom wel i just jumped straight in and got the canon 400d for my first taste of a dslr :)..great camera.. you can start by using it on full auto then venture out into the manual settings and can get some great shots that way too :)

with the canon 400 or the nikon 40, can they take all the lenses that bigger ones do so if I get better I can trade in the body and keep the lenses?

Is there anything to watch out for when buying or things that I should definitely buy?

Well.. after having the same question, I decided to get a Nikon D40
    1. it is the cheapest
    2. with the money you save you can eventually get lots of lenses and accesories
    3. it is supposed to be easy to use
    4. it isnt too big or too heavy
5.Ive seen GREAT pictures taken with it!
