Hello to our Disney Secrets family!
We've had a lovely, laid-back visit in Las Vegas. Stayed at the Excalibur, which is centrally located and convenient to other venues and transportation. Hope you're able to visit here some day.

Glad the postcard arrived safely! I carried it in my purse for two days in Las Vegas and finally mailed it two days after returning home!

We had a great trip. Both of us were exhausted when we arrived. Leu had about three hours of sleep the night before we arrived in Las Vegas as her DS and DD and their families were over and stayed until about 2:00 a.m. No real excuse for me--I was just trying to finish a few things before leaving! The weather was nice to gorgeous the entire trip--mostly in the 90s, but one day in the 80s!

Leu had a new cell phone, and Grandpa Sweetie (her DH) forgot to program my cell phone number into it. Despite our flights arriving within 10 minutes of one another and only five gates away from one another, we ended up meeting in baggage claim.

We didn't see any shows this trip. We had narrowed it down to The Lion King or Jersey Boys, but didn't want to be tied to the show times. We puttered around our resort and The Tropicana (across Las Vegas Boulevard) the first day and had an early night. Discovered I forgot to pack my prescription eyeglasses. That's a first for me! And hopefully the last! Can't see two feet in front of my nose without my glasses or contacts.

On Monday (first full day), we walked north on Las Vegas Boulevard to Planet Hollywood. Neither of us had seen it since it the renovation was completed. Rather underwhelmed by it. Wandered through the shops below, which have been renamed Miracle Miles Shops. She bought two magnetic necklaces (beads are magnetic--has anyone seen them? They're neat!) and another sterling necklace/pendant for her DD and DGD for Christmas. From there we went to Paris, following the shops to Bally's. Much cooler than walking outside!

Crossed Las Vegas Boulevard there, to head south. Strolled through the Bellagio shops (never can remember the name of the shopping center but drool at the Fred Leighton windwos every trip!), then the Bellagio itself. Still love that resort! Exited there and walked along the unfinished City Centre project that's currently on hold--or was the last time I read anything about it. It's huge! Next stop was CVS to pick up some inexpensive snacks. I'm proud of us--we didn't buy very much! Then we detoured through the Monte Carlo--just the front of it and into New York, New York. There's an ugly--and would be cute elsewhere--bar/lounge in front of the Monte Carlo. Just doesn't fit the design of the Monte Carlo, but it's a higher/better use of the property than the former grand entrance to the Monte Carlo. After New York, New York, we crossed Tropicana Boulevard via the bridge and returned to the Excalibur for the remainder of the day.

Tuesday we purchased all-day tickets on the Deuce. That's the double-decker bus that runs from the STC (South Transfer Center) north on Las Vegas Boulevard to the DTC (Downtown Transfer Center), and back again, stopping in the vicinity of every major resort and Fremont Street. It was our day for breakfast at the Bay City Diner in the Golden Gate Hotel at One Fremont Street. Leu discovered it one time when she was with her mother and stuck without transportation. Reasonable prices and good food. We expected to stay on Fremont Street about two hours. We arrived about 10:00 a.m. and left about 4:00 p.m.! Where did the day go? Caught the Deuce back south, exiting at Encore. It's very nice and is attached to The Wynn via a shopping street. Like WDW, Las Vegas is very good at guiding guests into shopping venues! We arrived at the Excalibur around 8:00 p.m. and had dinner at Sherwood Forest Cafe, the 24-hour coffee shop at The Excalibur. Both of us love French Dip beef sandwiches and rarely have them at home. They are excellent at Sherwood Forest.

Wednesday we took the tram that runs between Excalibut, Mandalay Bay and Luxor south to Mandalay Bay, then stopped at the Luxor on the return trip. They have that planned well, too. There is no stop at the Luxor southbound, but you have the option of stopping at the Luxor or not on the northbound tram. After returning to Excalibur late afternoon, we went over to MGM Grand and spent a few hours there. It is HUGE! Very easy to lose your sense of direction in there! I've learned to hug the walls or follow the center core in most casinos. It usually works.

Went up to our room around 9:00 p.m. and packed. Wandered back downstairs for a couple more hours. It was awfully loud. They now have bands and/or karaoke (spelling?) at each end of the casino, blasting the noise--ummmm, music--into the casino. I think I'm too old for that atmosphere!

Left the hotel about 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning to catch out flights. We had a little time to look around the airport shops, but didn't buy anything. Leu's flight was about 15 minutes before mine. I headed over to my gate at 11:30 a.m., which was a good thing. They had us boarded by 11:45 a.m. and promptly headed into the taxiway queue. We departed at precisely noon--or as close as reasonably possible! We definitely were in the air at noon!

It was a nice trip and a fun visit. It's the first time we've seen each other since our December, 2007, WDW visit. Definitely not WDW, but a nice interlude with no responsibilities.
