    Firstly..

I can't even go to the place my Dad's ashes were scattered on his anniversary because I can't walk down the slope to get there :(
Could you hire a wheelchair and get someone to take you there?

    I don't know if this:
Devon Community Directory - North Devon Shopmobility Volunteer Escort Service & Wheelchair Hire

is near you but if not I'm sure they would point you to the correct place for your area.

Thank you Diane, but it's on Dartmoor and it's quite a steep slope to get to the river, the path has been made by people so a wheelchair just wouldn't get down there

I've just had another phone call from Fay, she has been worrying about me because I was so upset this morning. She has made me an appointment to see the consultant on the 24th August - he is away on holiday from Friday and that is his first day back :(

She talked to me a bit more about what is wrong and from what she said I certainly don't do things by halves She did say though that it could have gone anytime because my bone degeneration is very bad.

I have got osteoarthritis quite severely and I will probably have to have both my knees replaced, but the consultant will discuss all the options with me. I know I'm silly, but I asked her if it was bone cancer, because that's what I've been really scared about and she said no, so that put my mind at rest a lot.

She has said that a cortisone injection will probably help with the pain but the consultant will say yes or no for sure. She doesn't want to give me one now in case he wants to and she said that he might say I can go away if the injection works

She has still told me not to cancel the holiday until I see the consultant, but it's getting too close then I think I will have to look at what we will lose for cancellation fees.

The really annoying thing about this and what makes me so angry is I have been complaining for years about my joints, I've seen a consultant and he said there was no arthritis, even though both parents had/have it. If more tests had been done then, this might not have happened, I could have taken supplements or something

Is there any possibility of you seeing a different one before then?

Oh dear, that's bad. It's not surprising that you are angry.

I asked Fay the same, she said that he is best there is in Plymouth, he specialises in knee surgery and if she needed anything doing she would go to him

Oh. I suppose you'd better hang in there then.
You are correct about looking into cancellation fees for your holiday, it would just be awful if you lost a lot of money as well as the holiday.

The main problem with the cancellation is that I used miles to get our flights so I will lose not only the money but miles as well :( I'm sure you can alter the time of the flights for 25pp but I think if you cancel you lose the money for the taxes etc which is all we paid

I've sent an email to Disney about the photopass I have pre-paid, but that's about all for now.

I think you need to sit and write down all the possible scenarios, such as 'Would we go if I have nothing done? / Would we go if I have had an op?' etc.
If you decide that you probably won't go this year then it's definitely worth changing the flights for that price.

I've just spoken to my my friend who is a chiropractor and she has said if I can get a copy of the report and the scan, then she will have a look at it for me next week.

She is of the opinion that if it is a partial tear then it should be ok to go because there are another 8 weeks before we are due to fly out.

I think I will just see what Fay sees tomorrow and then talk to Chris and make a decision. I'm worried about waiting until the 24th August, I know it's only 4 weeks away but oh I don't know :(

Wendy!! You don't do things by halves do you
I know how all of this waiting is getting you down as it only gives you more time to worry. I wouldn't give up hope of the holiday yet until you speak to Fay again face to face. Make a list of any questions you might want to ask her.
Talk it over with Chris and decide what you both want. You could even use one of the motorised scooters or a wheelchair while you are away if you wouldn't be in pain from your knee. Maybe you will have to postpone the trip but hopefully you won't lose too much.
I know you both need a break right now but if it came down to it, putting it off a month or so would be better than a painfull trip....you need a WDW trip where you are healthy....you know what I mean

Well, there's a glimmer of light for you to focus on.
