It's scanning all the files which could take all night.

Our PC is an asset of our limited company so Dh is going to purchase the Anti virus you have tomorrow.

Thanks for your advice..I'll keep you posted :)

    im with keith debbie

it quicker to reinstall windows than spend hours and hours trying to get rid of virii plus with that gets rid of all the crud and brings it back up to as fast as it can be :D

Malware and Avenger did the trick and identified 34 worms which are now all deleted. New anti-virus installed and all seems ok now.

Thanks Keith and Mick....from my DH and me :)

Yeah you did - you cared enough to reply and gave your opinion as to best solution. If DH hadn't solved it, he would have done what you and Keith recommended.

Norton has been the cause of PC support nightmares the world over. It was big, memory heavy, cpu intensive, slowed the pcs with it on quite a lot and stopped many legitimate things from running. Nightmare. Now it's latest 2009 version is not nearly as bad, although it's still the cause of many normal things failing ;-)

Mcafee has always been better. The home version is definitely less good than the corporate/business version though. They always try and put too much in the home versions and try to make them all pretty, the corporate versions are streamlined to go on pcs which may not have the latest and greatest hardware so consequently they tend to take less to run.

Now Microsoft is planning to release its own, free, AV suite and test versions are getting good press, so watch this space!

"Code-named “Morro,” this streamlined solution will be available in the second half of 2009 and will provide comprehensive protection from malware including viruses, spyware, rootkits and trojans. This new solution, to be offered at no charge to consumers, will be architected for a smaller footprint that will use fewer computing resources, making it ideal for low-bandwidth scenarios or less powerful PCs"
