i *need* a new vaccum cleaner and *want* a carpet washer......can anyone recommend anything?

I need a vaccum with good suction and probably a pet hair one as we *may* be getting a couple of kitties, not too heavy for my poor back and easy to use hoses for stairs and edges.

I want a vaccum style carpet washer that easy to use.

just a thought, can you get combined vaccums/cleaners?

    thanks for any help!

I've got a Vax and find it really good . OMG the muck that comes out of the carpet and there's only me, I didn't realise I was so dirty!! Seriously though, it really works for me. I tried a Dyson but couldn't get on with it

I have a Dyson and its great (we have a long haired cat and a dog).

We have an upright vacuum style Carpet Cleaner - Bissell Pro Heat Turbo 2X and you can buy all the various treatments for carpets including scotchguard for after you have shampooed - it does hard floors too.

    Would thoroughly recommend both!

We have an old upright. I think it's a Hoover. The stupid thing won't die. Not that it's the greatest and it's heavy and awkward on the stair risers, but we're too cheap to buy a new one until this one is a goner!
