Well, some of you may remember we adopted puppy Basil from the Dogs Trust (an animal shelter) in May. He was one of litter of 10 taken from a crack den, malnourished and full of worms and other nasties. Someone who lived there tried to get a petshop to take them, and the lasy from there took them straight into the shelter for safety.
He came to us when he wasn't even 6 weeks old, and he was very poorly for about 3 weeks, with the prognosis of only 50/50 of survival at best. I asked for some pixiedust from you all and it came in abundance! We really did think we were going to lose him and there were a lot of vet visits. Well, after a lot of hard work he has now been well for a few weeks, and is officially fit and well!! The vet had thought his illness may have been a permanent thing, but it now looks like it was the result of the mother and him not being fed or cared for properly. He has been late in his socialisation as his vaccinations were delayed due to him being ill, but he's getting there now.
He is a real mix; half Whippet, quarter Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and quarter German Shepherd! At first he seemed to be mostly staffie, but as he is growing he is getting taller and taleer, so the whippet legs are now kicking in!
We have had a tough time getting him to not chase the cats (he doesn't want to eat them, but to play with them - he thinks they're puppies), and it took a long while to get our other dog Sorrel to accept him, but now they play together and she is teaching him lots of good canine stuff. It is lovely to see her come out of her shell with some doggie company, it's one of the reasons we wanted a second dog. Anyway, here our a couple of pics (not great quality but at least you can see him!): the first is a reminder of how he was a couple of days after we brought him home, and the others were taken this last week at the age of 18 weeks!
