What is the princess experience like here? wanting to take my nearly 4 year old niece but I was thinking the cheaper option of Akershus as I don't think she'll know the difference between there and the Castle. I'm presuming it's easier to get dining reservations there too?

Well, and it is a castle too, remember. It's surprising but it can be a bit challenging to get a reservation there, at least from what I've heard from families. I would imagine if you start at the earliest opportunity and remain flexible, you should be able to obtain one.

To be honest - if you remove the "uniqueness" of it being Cinderella castle, I quite like Akershus more than the castle. The princesses seem to be more relaxed/at ease, and in no hurry to move on to the next table. They spent ages with my older girls in August, and Ariel even dropped by twice because the girls told her she was their favorite. Foodwise, I also prefer it. I love the little "mini buffet" of cheeses, meats, fruits and pastries that you can help yourself to, and the breakfast skillet is quite tasty. We've been there a fair number of times and ALWAYS had a wonderful experience!

Bonus - if she (or YOU!) wants to meet Anna and Elsa, book an early ADR at Akershus, and then walk across to the meet and greet straightaway there in Norway (they are actually making an appearance beginning at 9am now).

    Just playing a hunch

They do a little "princess processional" during the meal and your niece can even join in if she chooses. They also do a photo package like the castle does - it's been Belle the last few times we've been, but it may change from time to time - great keepsake!

A few photos from our trip with niece, Lilly (just under 4 then).

It's a unique experience, I found so much joy in seeing them swept away by the magic...while NOT finding myself swept away by the details...it didn't matter if their hair was just so, or if they were wearing the perfect princess dress, or if they had a bit of butter smeared across their cheek...I just enjoyed the moment - something I occasionally found hard to do when my own were small.

We went to Akershus for dinner in November. It was quite nice. Our server was fantastic and so attentive. I think people must be really nasty to him because he was all over himself apologizing for everything (and he did nothing wrong!!)

Is this an all you can eat type meal or do you select one entree?

It's sort of both. They have a buffet at the beginning of the meal. When we went for dinner, they had salad, cheeses, crackers, bread, salmon, shrimp coctail, deli meats. It's called a Taste of Norway. We went up a couple of times.

For your dinner entree, you order something (I got the meatballs and ligonberries) but I think you could order another entree if you wanted. I was stuffed. Dessert, they brought out a sampler.

We booked lunch on the day of arrival when we visited with our niece and nephew - it was quite similar to what Johnie described - and quite good! Even Andrew ( the far less adventurous eater of the group) enjoyed it.

I think the thing we didn't like was that the mains came out too fast. We'd just got our starters from the buffet and the main meal arrived which was really annoying.
However, the actual food was lovely.

That annoys me too. Next time just take your time ordering your entree :)

Breakfast isn't an "order" per se, as the whole table gets a big skillet...but it didn't bother me, the pastries and fruit/cheese went nicely with the main food.

I don't recall it happening at lunch.

i've just been talking to my SIL about this, she's admitted to getting excited... trying VERY hard not to over organise and scare the bejaysus out of her, this is going to be a challenge... I did give her a copy of the ultimate guide to WDW though
