yeah! me too.... nice meal, jazz in background, I'd really love that

Must say though they BEST meat i've ever had was Iwate Japanese Beef at victoria and alberts. I tried the kobe beef first and thought it was great, but the Iwate was something else.

I've not heard of the iwate... Off to google. The rib eye is too big for me but I don't particularly go for filet. I will try V&A at some point

I was looking for recommendations for jazz clubs and it came up as quite a controversial one ;-) many people LOVE it and have nothing but great things to say about a wonderful meal followed by excellent jazz musicians... whereas other people loathed the service

We'll look forward to your review. It could be a fabulous place for a special occasion, eh? :) (Except Herself doesn't like jazz. Well, to be fair, I'm not into it too much either). HOWEVER, (sheesh) your review will be most anticipated!

I've just sent an email to one of the pathologists I work with. He may have been. I'll let you know if he has anything to say about it.

It's always the way, what one person likes another one doesn't

It looks very nice and it has a huge wine list  I think you should give it a try.

    Well tried it tonight.

Wine list extensive although nowhere near Berns of Tampa.

The place itself is a little weird, bar with live band on one side and a rather swish looking restaurant on the other side of the bar. The music was very loud and not at all Jazz, more soul. Tbh, I didn't really rate the music although if you were local and a regular there I can see the appeal. It wouldn't get away with calling itself a jazz bar in anywhere other than Florida though let's be honest here .

The servers were... idiosyncratic. They certainly weren't chain drones but they had a little too much personality perhaps. I can certainly see how some reviewers had arguments with them. No such problem tonight for me though.

The food was good to very good. French Onion soup very tasty and steak cooked perfectly. The music, slowly became a bit of a din as the night went on and not one jazz track to be heard.

The clincher was the 20% automatic gratuity on the bill in what was already an overpriced restaurant and the $10 increase on the bottle of wine since the menu had been printed (which no one mentioned until I queried it).

So, nah, won't be going back. Had potential for sure, but too up itself with no justification and way overpriced. Shame!
