So..... What do we think? Is anyone going to buy one?
My Jack probably will.
He loves all things Apple!
Nope not me, but my money is on Keith buying one
I don't know enough about them. I heard the report on NPR, but they were just talking about the fact that they had been announced and that a sport version was a little over $300.
So then. What do they do other than keep time?
well y'all know I'd be buying one no matter how daft or expensive
So say you have your watch on, you could have your phone anywhere in the house/office on charge whatever, and you'll still be able to send/receive texts, phone calls etc from the watch. It has a less obtrusive notification system which will just gently buzz your wrist so in a meeting you wont need to get the phone out just a quick glance at the watch. Loads of watch faces so you can choose that which I quite like tells the time but yah know, so do the phones. Lots of fitness sensors including heart beat etc.
Then there's the fashion element lots of choice
Finally, we've no idea what developers will make of it and the kind of apps they may think up! It could be brilliant orrrrrrrr it may be a total flop.
I do think they're charging a heck of a lot for the straps though!
Bet they will be really difficult to get hold of.
I wonder if a phone call in the early hours of the morning will be needed
You'll be able to preorder them in a few weeks.
Keith I think you're right about the strap price. I initially was going to buy the space black with the link band, until I saw it was over £900. I'll be getting the black sports watch instead!
And you can put Mickey on the watch face and have him tell the time.

I am going to take a "watch" and see approach....pun intended. I rarely wear a watch and I have a hard enough time reading on my phone never mind a screen a quarter of that size.
i was intending to get one but i can't wear a watch in my new job so i think it would be a little wasted. Regarding the straps I'm sure in the fullness of time other retailers will be bringing out straps that fit
Ha! beat me to it lol.
Getting old really sucks doesn't it?
I have no business buying one, seeing as I'm saving for a new car at the moment (you may recall that I spent my previous car fund on the villa).
I'll probably try and pick one up in Florida, when I'm next there.
It was initially intended to have far more health features, including an optical sensor to test your blood glucose level. If it had that, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Tony, you are a typical man! In one breath you say you shouldn't buy one and in the next breath you will buy one
I just love how the male mind works
It's how we justify buying shiny expensive things.
The same way that women buy clothes and shoes by rationalising the fact that because it was in the sales they've in fact saved hundreds (not spent hundreds).
I disagree... there was clearly a third breath in the middle!
It's true, I'm terrible with technology... Ooh... alliteration!
I WANT one!! I always wear a watch and there is always a character on it (today is Donald). I'm not usually the first one to go out and get the latest gadget but dear lord, I want this!!
I think it's going to be a lot of fun!
Ive seen one and it's a lot less obtrusive to get a message on the watch than on the phone and send back a quick sketch as a reply. surprisingly cool.
However.. it's the first time I've watched an Apple announcement and thought, wow, they're not talking to me any more, they're talking to the people who get all their designer clothes/jewelry etc. Everything about it screams boutique product. All the watch parts do the same functions, so the only differences are in materials round the side and the strap. The watch starts at £349 and excluding the stupidly expensive 10,000 ones, tops out at about £949 for a steel strap version. So by my reckoning that's like £600 or so for a pretty normal looking steel band :/
I love to see Apple designs. I've grown to really appreciate the care they take and hate the old beige block computers we got before. Having said that, when we start talking about the Tech costing £350 and the "designer bits" costing me another £600 :/ I start to think I'm better off with my old casio
not too impressed on the new app that you can't delete!
the new apple iwatch app?
