The Astro Orbiter ride at Walt Disney World was closed Sunday after a power outage and small fire at the ride, park officials said. A Disney spokesperson said the incident happened at the ride in the Tomorrowland area of Magic Kingdom about 9:30am Sunday. No guests were on the ride at the time of the shutdown and no injuries were reported. A melted lamp at the top of the ride caught on fire from rain reaching the electronic components, which in turn caused a power outage. The power outage was isolated although the People Mover was also halted as a precaution because of its close proximity. Tomorrowland was closed as a fire truck made its way across the Magic Kingdom to put out the fire, which took nearly an hour. Tomorrowland did open later that day and the People Mover was also reopened. Astro Orbiter remains closed. Disney cannot say when it will be operational again because inspections will be required before that can happen.
