The link will take you to a brief article about the situation. It was just announced on the local news, too. The monorail is still stuck, but no one was injured. If you read the comments below the article (at the link) you'll read some from a couple of people who were on the monorail. NOT a good time for them. No AC, no power, little kids having to climb through the hatch to a fire ladder... scary to say the least.

No one being hurt is good news though. Let's hope this becomes one of their "let me tell you what happened to me on MY Disney vacation!" stories.

Scary I remember one year a woman was struck by lightning just as she got to her car in the parking lot

Last I knew the monorail was still stuck. Wonder what that means for service from the TTC/MK to EPCOT? Will let you know if I hear anything about the rail being cleared. Probably won't be announced on the news. Will hope for info from CMs.

Very scary! The closest we came was a tree being struck by lightning about 30 feet away, when we were in DHS.

I saw this last night. The storms have been particularly intense this past week, heavy rain with lots of lightning and wind.

We were there in 1985 when one of the monorails caught fire from the friction of a flat tire being dragged on the track. We just missed getting on that monorail at the EPCOT station. Those were still the old Mark IV monorails and those had no escape hatch to the roof. People had to bust windows and doors to crawl up onto the roof to escape the fire.

That must have been awful. The comments below the article include one from someone who was there who described the lack of fresh air and the rising temperature.

I love the monorail, but that would have freaked me out a little... Mainly because I would be forced into the company of other people!

We had hail here today. Fortunately, it did not puncture our NEWLY replaced screen enclosure's roof panel.

I would have totally lost it. I get claustrophobic very easily. I think I might have lost it totally. Those poor people.

I'm the same as you Mags, I think Chris or someone would have had to knock me out

I ended up having a really bad panic attack on the London Underground because it was so packed and I couldn't breathe. I've not been on it since.

I don't even like thinking about how those poor people must have been feeling. As someone who doesn't like heights I don't know how they would have got me out. I certainly wouldn't have walked along the roof especially with 2 sticks.

Me too, Mags. I'll have to try not to think about this when I'm there.
Wendy, if we go to London Pete is kind enough to pay for taxis as I can't do the underground. :(

I can do the underground but it has to be at less busy times. I know know central London quite well and we tend to walk as much as we can. I read on that article on the monorail that a woman was close to breaking the window. I think I would have been that woman if I was stuck. :(

I'm ok in inclosed spaces. What I don't like are heights. I was once stuck in a life at work for 40 minutes and was ok until I thought about the fact I was between the 8th and 9th floor.
