Thanks for the information Robert. As if parking down there wasn't bad enough already :sigh:

You can say that again.
Unless you get there early it`s best to forget using entrances 1 & 2, and it always amuses me to see how many folks wait around for a parking spot to lessen their walk to the stores and clogging up the access, rather than just driving on to find a spot a few yards further away.

    Re: parking at DOWNTOWN DISNEY

We always head directly for the West Side. The "back" parking lot is always available and really, it's not much of a walk from one end of DTD to the other. There is some serious "people congestion" at times, but it's truly a short distance as long as you have good mobility.

I can't picture where the garage is going? I'll have to wait and see it for myself, I guess! I'm so reliant on seeing things in the here and now. I'm the sort that drives furniture movers bonkers. "Could you try it over there?" "Ummmm, nope. How about there?" "Welllllll, maybe on this wall instead?" You get the idea! :sorry:

    Re: parking at DOWNTOWN DISNEY

That`s exactly what we found on our recent trip Tink.
There was oodles of space available in the area closer to the West Side, so why able bodied folks feel the need to waste time finding a space just that little bit closer to the shops always amazes me.

Any idea how long that parking will be closed down? We're going in September and I was hoping parking wouldn't be too terrible. It's been years since we've been to Downtown and I was looking forward to spending part of our first day there.

They're probably the same people that park 3 feet from the school gates so their child doesn't wear themselves out getting into school.

I would think it will be closed permanently now until the new multi story parking is available.

Some more information has become available.

The parking spots that are being closed are between Planet Hollywood and Splitsville are expected to be off-limits by early next week, says Keith Bradford, vice president for Downtown Disney.

The existing lots — including one behind the Cirque du Soleil theater — should be able to handle a normal day of activity at Downtown Disney, Bradford says. On busier days and peak weekends, addition parking be available across the street in lots for Team Disney, the Casting building and the SunTrust bank building, he says. A shuttle will run from there to the shopping area or guests can walk, he says.

"We feel great about what we're able to provide [for parking]. We believe we'll handle the majority of it," Bradford says. "And on those days when there are some additional bodies coming in, we'll be able to park across the street."

Disney expects to have the garage ready by late 2014 or early 2015, Bradford says. When it opens, work will begin on another garage. Together, the two structures will hold 6,000 vehicles.

It wouldn't surprise me if they did, Universal charges for their parking if people are visiting CityWalk and I can see Disney doing the same.

Here is what they should do if they end up charging for parking....if you buy merchandise or a meal you should be to get your parking validated and not get charged.

That would be a good idea, DisneyFreak. Let's hope it happens. I can't imagine WDW putting that much money into something and not getting it back out with additional charges.

We usually park behind Cirque, as I said. I imagine it will be packed back there now. People would rather park there than across the street I would imagine.

That seems like a good idea, and hopefully the charges will deter folks who park there all day and then go off to visit the parks etc.

I have never understood why anyone would park at DTD to get to the parks. That is a huge waste of time.
