A Disney Cruise Line crew member, on board the Disney Dream, has been arrested after being accused of molesting a teenage passenger.

Canaveral Port Authority Police arrested 36 year old Disney Cruise Line crew member, Ahmed Sofyan, a resident of Jakarta, on two counts of lewd or lascivious molestation and one count of false imprisonment of a 13 year old girl.

Disney Cruise Line released the following statement:

Today, Disney Cruise Line alerted law enforcement that a crew member from one of its ships was accused of lewd or lascivious molestation of a minor. The crew member has been arrested, and charges are now pending. The incident occurred this morning while the ship was at Port Canaveral. As soon as Disney Cruise Line learned of the incident, it immediately notified law enforcement, including the Port Canaveral Police Department, the FBI and the Coast Guard. The Port Canaveral Police Department is leading the investigation, and Disney Cruise Line will continue to assist in that investigation in any way that it can. The crew member's employment with Disney Cruise Line has been terminated.

"We have no tolerance whatsoever for the behavior alleged in this incident," said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line. "We are sorry that anything of this nature could have occurred on one of our ships. We place enormous value on the trust our guests have in us, and nothing is more important to us than the safety and security of each and every one of our guests."

I agree with Tony G, he's lucky he didn't get tossed overboard by her parents.

OMG do they have cameras that can confirm this incident? If true then it is deplorable.

I wonder what kind of background checks Disney does when hiring their cast members. This surely is something that is researched extensively considering their proximity and interaction with kids.

I'm not positive, but I think it's only a level I that is done, but don't quote me on that. I really, really respect Disney for making this public. So very many attacks on passengers are not reported, and not brought to light. I hope the child is alright. :(

A sad state of affairs - my thoughts are with the girl and her family.

Let's hope this pushes Disney into strict rule changes and monitoring to ensure this can never happen again.

I'm just pointing out that no guilty verdict has been given yet. You never know.
