Disney Cruise Line have confirmed that they will move one of its ships to Miami for the first time this December, trading cruises from Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera for cruises to the Caribbean, Bahamas and Caribbean Mexico. The move confirmed by Disney Cruise Line last week, marks the first time that a Disney ship will home port in a Florida port other than Port Canaveral. The commitment to Port Miami is so far only for the winter 2012-13 season and comes after Disney cancelled some port calls in Mexico due to violence there. At this point, Disney has not set up any packages combining the Miami cruises with theme park visits, as it offers out of Port Canaveral. The core business of Disney’s four-ship fleet will remain Bahamas/Caribbean cruises out of Port Canaveral by its two newest and largest ships, the Disney Dream, which was launched one year ago, and the Disney Fantasy, which will be inaugurated in March.
