The Disney Magic has set sail on its historic voyage from New York on its first 8-night cruise to The Bahamas, with stops at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, and Port Canaveral, Florida, where guests can enjoy a visit to The Walt Disney World Resort. The ship will also sail 5-night New England itineraries to Halifax, Nova Scotia and Saint John, New Brunswick as well as 2-night weekend getaway cruises through September, for a total of 20 cruises.

The ship arrived in New York Harbor this morning sporting the world’s largest bumper sticker. The 50-foot-long by 11-foot-wide super-sized sticker is larger than a city bus and proclaims “Disney + New York = Magic.” The word “Disney” is represented by the iconic Mickey Mouse ears.

“New York is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world, and the opportunity to sail from here is very appealing to our guests,” said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line. “These itineraries make it easier than ever for guests who live in the northeast to sail with us from a port close to their own backyard.”

Captain John Barwis, together with shipboard officers, will host local port officials and community leaders onboard the Disney Magic for a traditional maritime plaque exchange ceremony in two weeks. This event symbolizes the partnership between the ship and the port of call in honor of its inaugural voyage.

    Disney Heritage in New York
New York has played an important role in the history of The Walt Disney Company. The historic premiere of Mickey Mouse’s first screen appearance in “Steamboat Willie” took place at the Colony Theatre, now the Broadway Theatre in Midtown, in 1928. Today the ABC television network calls the East Coast home, the flagship Disney Store can be found in Times Square and some of the most successful Disney theatrical events can be seen on Broadway.

The newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Fantasy, celebrated its christening in New York with a star-studded celebration in March. The ship is the fourth in the Disney fleet, and the second new ship in two years, enabling guests to sail to more destinations than ever before.
