Making a difference for high-achieving college students, the Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund recently awarded scholarships to 14 local college students during an awards ceremony at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. More than 300 community leaders and supporters celebrated the students who were selected by a volunteer committee for their academic achievement and service to the community. For the first time this year, one of the students received an additional scholarship for his commitment to serving his community. The annual event recognizes the students and raises funds for additional scholarships to support the dreams of local students of Hispanic heritage. Since the Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund of Metro Orlando was established in 2000, the organization has given more than $800,000 in scholarships to more than 200 Central Florida students. “Disney understands that helping talented students reach their goals benefits our whole community,” said Lizette Valerino, executive director and founder of the scholarship fund. The Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund of Metro Orlando is the largest non-profit in Central Florida committed to providing scholarships to college and university students of Hispanic heritage.
