DTD = Construction zone

    Wow, what a mess!! Walls up everywhere, construction cranes as far as the eye can see. I was not prepared for that. LOL!

    It looks like the bridge going across the lagoon (from T-Rex to Rainforest) has begun. The old restaurant above the water is completely gone. You can no longer walk through Pleasure Island. They have built a boardwalk that wraps around the outside of PI along the water (beginning between Raglan Road and Paradiso 37). The area looks so different. I didn't walk any further since the place was packed yesterday.

    I forgot to mention how weird the parking garage construction looks. They are beginning level 2 on one of the sections.

    I don't remember seeing so much construction going on at WDW since the mid to late 80's.

    My niece and sister were at DTD on Friday and said the place was mobbed. They didn't stay long and didn't venture further than the Marketplace.

    Tink, we were there Friday night and Sunday night and it was mobbed both times (ate at Wolfgang Express both times). I would love to go back to the days where going to DTD was to get AWAY from the crowds.

    I go to Downtown Disney quite a lot I suppose I will just have to put up with the construction hope it is worth when it is finished

    Yes, I remember when going to DTD was what we did on the first and last days of the holiday. We'd fly in, check in, and head to DTD. Last day, we'd check out and head to DTD before heading to the airport.

    We used to go there to wander around and get away from the crowds at the Parks, those days are gone now :sigh:

    The new areas will be opening in stages and will be fully complete in 2016. This expansion is the largest for DTD in it's history and will be growing from 75 shops, restaurants and venues to over 150 when it's all said and done.

    There will be a couple of shops opening and 2 Starbucks that I know of but a lot of the major work will still be underway Diane :(

    When we went last year it was a mess down there, so I can imagine what it's like now with even more work starting. We only visited DTD a few times the whole of the 4 weeks because of the work, if you went Friday - Sunday, the chances of parking were virtually impossible, the car parks were even closed on occasions.

    It will look good when it's done, but it sure is one huge construction site at the moment.

    Team Mickey is already closed. This is where Marketplace Co-Op is going to be located. The Starbucks is being build right across from the Waterside Stage smack in-between the two entrances to World of Disney.

    Both of these should be complete by November.

    what can we expect in Sept? As it is a bit of a traditional for us to go down to DTD on the first night of arrival to breath in Disney Magic! Also to grab a sandwiches from Earl of Sandwiches.

    Almost all of the Marketplace in is intact. The only construction going on there is the Starbucks (being built in front of World of Disney) and The Marketplace Co-Op (refurbish of the old Team Mickey location). None of this is effecting traffic flow and both of these should be complete by September. I don't believe there are any other major plans for The Marketplace but I would expect lots of construction still in September around old Pleasure Island and West Side.

    You're welcome Jeff. I was wondering that as well but we won't be in the parks until December so you'll find out before me.

    We went there during our Christmas trip. To be honest I didn`t notice any difference to the place at all, apart from it being a different brand of coffee!
