Anyone ever rented a DVD from those red boxes outside the likes of Publix or Wallmart?
If so, how do they work? Do you use a credit card or are they cash rentals? Are the rentals for 24 hours?

Interesting. I see them all the time and never thought about it. I was curious too so I spent a bit of time on their website. Here's what I found. :brightidea:
    Tom ( :macwave:... easily entertained.)

Wow, that is great information Tom - thank you so much.
Some of the boxes are actually inside shops (Publix) so we would have to hire from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day which would be two days rental.

They probably are inexpensive. They seem to be quite popular. I've not used them though

The one I looked at was $1.28....that is major crazy!!!!! I can't even remember back when videos (never mind DVD's) were that inexpensive to rent over here.

I think it's because they don't have a huge store operating cost like they used to. We have a single Blockbuster store left in the entire city. I wouldn't have known that existed if Alysia hadn't had to go get some old films for a class

    Yep, they are super cheap.

I miss going to the dvd rental store. I would walk up and down the aisles. I'd rent some of the older ones for a $1. It's one of those things that wont be coming back.

y'all will have the same in the brave new digital world :) you'll just be able to choose from thousands on your tv and they'll be there. At the start it may not feel as enjoyable as walking around the video store but give it a couple of years, with google glass and other virtual reality devices and you'll be surprised

It's kinda like the lost art of walking around a library. Smelling the books, making the effort to look around, and checking out the new arrivals.

Nah, it's just one more chore to go get a movie and remember to return it! That's if they have what you want to watch, now we have a good broadband speed it's great to download the latest blockbuster without having to go anywhere! :)

I agree, Chris connected my laptop or his iPad to the TV when we were away and we were able to watch whatever we liked including programs that we watch at home. I know it's a small amount I couldn't be bothered with it.
