Homemade eggnog is SOOO much better than the stuff you buy in the carton...and I've only ever made it with raw eggs as well. It's really very good and doesn't taste at all like eggs. My dad used to add an egg when he would make a chocolate milkshake. ;)

All of you guys loathe to try this...you DO realize that most icecream has cooked eggs in it, right? In fact, if you've ever made homemade ice cream...eggnog is about the same consitency of the mix before you add it to the freezer.

And therein lies the problem.

Sort of, but much creamier and yummy.

Think of it as 'posset' then :D

    Cold, from the fridge.

    Yep, refridgerate overnight. :)

No straining involved if you make it properly! :D

    :p015: Yes indeed!!

Definitely no straining should be involved!

Eggnog, or a very similar drink, may have originated in East Anglia, England though it may also have been developed from posset (a medieval beverage made with hot milk).
The drink crossed the Atlantic to the English colonies during the 18th century.

Have to disagree on the straining. :D :D It's an insurance policy. Rather like cracking eggs into a separate dish before adding them to a mixture. No matter though. One cook's "gotta do" is another cook's "never do!" :D :D

I surely didn't think eggnog originated with Native American Indians, so it HAD to come here from another country. Given that the English were some of the first "over" I expected eggnog to have some connection to Britain. :D

Oh, Get Out !!! LOL Sounds like a plan then .
Funny Story I have a recipe for Tipsy Sweet Potatoes made with Jack Daniels . I make them every year for Thanksgiving . So, last year Jim picks up the bottle and says Honey what did you use the rum for ... OOPS !!! Those sweet mashed potatoes were better with the Captain Morgans . This year I'm buying an extra big bottle of rum . :D

I always buy it for Dh around the holiday season. I don't like the taste much, but he always fills a cup of half milk and half eggnog. Don't know why
