If you were planning a few nights of MK fun, parties etc, and wanted to stay at a convenient Magic kingdom hotel, which would you choose and why?

I guess the options are contemporary which would have the monorail PLUS walkway but could be said to be expensive for what it is and not exactly v.disney, all in one building style (other than the wing)

wilderness lodge, cheapest usually, no monorail but nice 15-20 min boat ride across to mk. Relaxing resort and all in one building rather than outbuildings

polynesian - expensive, undergoing refurb, monorail + boat service... rooms outside, great theming

grand floridian - most expensive, rooms outside (unless pay a fortune for main building), elegant, monorail + boat

I ask because in October at the start of our holiday, we're doing the luau (at poly), halloween party (mk), hoop dee doo (fort wilderness) and so we're thinking a few days in that MK area could be perfect

I would go for Bay lake towers just for the option to walk to and from MK. I don't find it very disney at all but I liked our 1 bed when we went.

I want to try the Grand Floridian, so I would go there. I've stayed at the Poly and I was disappointed and I find the Contemporary, well too contemporary I guess

I guess that you know my view on this ! :)
We have stayed at the GF oodles of times, our first visit being the year after it opened, and by now we know many of the CM`s who work there [including Ricardo`s DW], so it feels like "home from home" whenever we stay there.
Even though we now own a villa in Orlando, we normally stay at the GF for a few days whenever we visit Florida to get our Disney "fix", usually funded by our DVC points....although I guess we will have to stay at the DVC section now, but having seen those models, that won`t be an issue.

Having said all that, some friends stayed at BLT a while back and we were very impressed with their room overlooking the castle at the MK.

I`m with Wendy regarding the Poly. You either love it or hate it, and to me it always seems a tad dark and "dingy" compared with the airyness of some of the other resorts.

We have also stayed at WL and AK and enjoyed both resorts...Artist Point at WL is one of the few WDW restaurants where I seldom have a problem securing an ADR.

    Wilderness lodge for me.

The boat back to the hotel is very small and very private, no queues at the end of the night regardless of when the park closes.

No monorail so no 'visitors' from other hotels.

It's a lovely themed hotel too.

I've always wanted to stay at the Contemporary - that proximity to MK and the fact that the monorail runs through it makes me yearn to stay there!

The last few Decembers I've stayed a few nights at the contemporary in a tower room - MK view and I've just loved being able to stare out at the Castle at night. Wow it's an expensive luxury though :/ about £1300 for 3 nights. The contemporary as a hotel is convenient but compared to the lovely relaxation at wilderness lodge or the elegance of the grand floridian, it's a bit lacking in that regard.

Only stayed at one of them...that is if you don't count Disney Inn/Shades of Green. We stayed at the Poly and really liked it but would love to stay at GF or Contemp.

The Poly is my absolute favorite but I would avoid it for the time being due to the construction. I would go with the Contemporary as it is the only other "original" resort on property.

What about renting a few DVC points for a stay at BLT?

Poly would be my first choice but tbh unless they offered a good discount during the refurb I would choose WL

We really like BLT. WLV is nice, but it's so far removed from the style and atmosphere of BLT, it's hard to compare! I always think of WLV at the Fall, or Christmas time.

I know, right? But those times when you do want to relax, and just ease into, and through the day, a nice resort room/dvc villa makes all the difference!

I think that's my problem. I'm choosing between a fantastic villa for those days or a small hotel room. I do love to see the castle as I fall asleep :) but other than that, I'm not sure I'm getting a lot out of it :/

You could always put a large sticker of the castle on the bedroom window of the villa Keith....assuming the owner didn`t mind.

LOL LOL very good idea :p

What do you feel you get from your few days at the GF each stay? Do you try and "do" all your disney fix in those days or ?

That`s exactly what we do Keith.
Whenever we go over there, we do the parks during the time we are at the GF, taking in a few ADR`s along the way. Nowadays, the only other times we go to WDW is when we go to DTD, apart from having dinner with Ricky on our first and last nights....which has now become something of a ritual.
The rest of the time is spent seeing other parts of Florida or just chilling out...and dining a darn sight less expensive to boot !
