We normally just go to orlando direct from manchester with virgin but the service last time was really poor so I thought i'd look around.

BA don't fly direct from manchester sadly :/ but it looks worse than I thought ! I thought it'd just be a shuttle down to heathrow or something and then from there to mco but it seems like the BA shuttle would go to heathrow and then the mco flight goes from gatwick so we'd need to find our way from one to the other (and back on return)

Is that really the case? are they so close to each other than it's an easy journey or something?

I Can see it's not going to work out already but I thought it was worth a look

They are not close in my opinion. Go from Gatwick! They have a Harrods shop there! It's really very nice going from there. Wondering if it would be quicker for you to go from Scotland? Do BA fly from there?

wow that was a fast reply! thanks Esme!

Thing is, if I book with BA, they want to take me from Man->heathrow :/ I guess perhaps someone else would fly to gatwick maybe... I mean yeah I guess we could drive but it's a LONG drive each way... google says 4hrs with no traffic, 255miles

Could you stay the night before? It would still be a pain on the drive back though and yeah I would say longer than 4 hours... it takes ME 4 hours and I'm lower down the UK than you.

Could you possibly treat yourself and get a cab there and back? About £400ish

Factor in fuel cost and then parking costs and it's not so bad to get a cab?

yeah it's not bad at all and yep if there's a mega advantage in doing it, I'll factor in the cost and do it... question is, is it going to offer any benefit over one of the directs from manchester (virgin, thomas cook, thomson etc..)

Maybe another option would be to fly LHR to Miami with VA? [Although you probably would not fancy a 4 hour drive on the day you arrive.]

We have flown from Newcastle to Heathrow - cab to Gatwick, flown to Orlando twice in the past to save the three hour drive to Manchester. It's not really worth it. It saved us petrol to Manchester and an overnight stay at Raddison Blu, plus car park for the duration but it was hassle!

If you flew into Miami, Keith you could stay at a hotel there, and then visit the city for a couple of days before coming to Orlando. There is a train, too. I've not taken it, but an acquaintance of mine takes the train from Orlando to Miami quite often. Then, you could limo/cab it to your villa, and have a rental car delivered. Well, they pick you up, not actually deliver the car. (In California though, Beverly Hills car rental actually delivers the car)! :D

Carsonthedrive have the car at your villa, they pick you up via another car and take you to the villa where your car from them is waiting for you.

yeah I looked at them actually last year when someone said they werent much more than the usual car hire companies but when I looked they were like twice or three times as much

It's a nice idea though, means not having to get used to a car at the airport

We have flown UC from Manchester and Gatwick and the service you get from Gatwick is far better than Manchester. It shouldn't be I know but the cabin crew seem to be more attentative, nothing is too much trouble and they have the grazing menu which would suit you so much better Keith. We must have been unlucky every time we've flown in and out of Manchester but I would never say it's the service I would expect from UC.

The UC Lounge at Gatwick is hands and shoulders nicer than the Lounge at Manchester, the girls on reception make you feel like you are important. Heck you can even get your shoes polished if you want to

It is a pain driving to an airport that is a long way away though. We have no choice it is 4 hour plus trip to Gatwick and about the same to Manchester. The drive home when you get back is a nightmare, I really don't know how Chris manages it. I try and stay awake but I normally end up falling asleep and then feel really guilty.

We always stay overnight at the Gatwick Hilton, the service has gone downhill over the years, it's not as "posh" as it used to be  It is just so convenient, that's the problem, it's just a short stroll over to the airport in the morning.

I'm not much help really am I :sorry:

If you want to fly BA then I would be tempted to book a stand alone flight from Manchster to Gatwick and then fly BA to Orlando. I wouldn't bother with the BA shuttle. I know you would have more hassle trying to match the flight times and you would have to check your luggage twice, but it would seem the easiest option.
