In all the trips I've ever taken, I have never once driven in Disney World. For the most part, we've relied on Disney Transportation, and the other times, I've been with someone who's driven but never driven myself.

This will likely change this week, as my parents will have a car but will give me their keys once they arrive.

    So my question is this...

Is it hard to find your way around? Will Google Maps be sufficient in directing me to, say, Whispering Canyon (where we're having dinner tonight)?

Stressing just a tiny bit over this one :)

everything is signposted -albeit sometimes quite late but hey you're at Disney, so what if you have to take a little detour :)

I don't drive, I'm designated navigator but it's very easy IMHO the signs are always there and although they don't always take you the most efficient way, they'll get you there

The hardest part of getting to the wilderness lodge is that if you come down through the magic kingdom gateway, it's quite a quick right turn you have to watch out for so as you approach the gates, make sure to be in the right lanes rather than having to scoot across from the left whilst other people are scooting from the right to the left to get to the poly/GF ;-)

...but I'm making it sound worse than it is.. you'll be totally fine

it's truly fine inside Disney and as you can guess coming from me, given I'm navigationally challenged, if I say it's fine, it really must be easy

You're preaching to the choir on that one, love. I couldn't find my way out of a cardboard box. Why they pass the keys off to me, I'll never know. I'll be glad when Jon arrives and I can pass that task along :D

I think I must be the only person who has had their GPS system say "OK that's it, I've had enough, you're on your own, I QUIT."

Jon and I certainly have less arguments since we got a sat nav and I don't have to navigate any more!

Driving around Disney is easy peasy SD. If you are going to Wilderness Lodge tonight simply go in the main gate at MK keeping to the far right. The 2nd right turn will take you right to Wilderness Lodge. Have a wonderful time. Sure wish we could have been there at the same time, but we are still a couple of weeks away.

All roads not only lead to WDW, but to every point in WDW! You may end up taking the long way around, but you'll get where you need to go. You may sometimes have to think like the sign is talking, so to speak, but you'll be fine if you read the signs. For instance, some signs talk about EPCOT area resorts, or MK resort area, ect. so it's good to know in what area your destination lies.

We almost never use Disney Transportation. We drive to WDW so we have our car with us. Driving around is very easy, you should have no problem navigating the property.
My wife hates taking the bus and insists that we use our car to get back and forth. The only time I can get her to agree to take the bus is if we go to Epcot and I tell her she is the designated driver, all of a sudden she doesn't mind the bus so much.

LOL. That is the reason we stay over for things like Food and Wine Festival, etc. No one has to worry about driving.

Here at the moment, and must say how disappointed I have been with the disney transport.

Twice we've waited over an hour to a park. For the first time ever we are parking at the parks rather than using the buses. I'm just glad we have a car.

As to the answer to your question its really easy to navigate however signs are sometimes rather late and I have once or twice missed a turning. However I can usually jump off on the next turning and find my way back.

Thank you for the info on Disney Transport, Oreo. I'm sorry it's not working out well. :( Why do you think they are running so late? Any idea?

Tink, I find that one of the reasons is the traffic has so increased on the property that it takes the buses forever to get to and from their destination.
