    Ok. Here we go.

    :mental:
    Warning! Warning! Warning!
    Danger, Will Robinson!
    Proceed at your own risk.

If this fails or gets screwed up, you may need to take your iPhone to the resident Apple store genius to get sorted.

If you're sure you want to go ahead, instructions can be found here. These say IOS 6 Beta but they'd be the same for the release version. Out of the various sets of instructions on the internet, this one seemed to be the clearest.

Keep in mind, I have never done this so I can't speak to it's accuracy. I know that these same steps are referenced on many other internet sites. Based on my knowledge, they "sound" right. I just can't personally validate them.

But, but, but, but. Before you do.

Can't you just save the "maps.google.com" location to your Home Screen and then you'd have your Google Maps back as an icon you can just use instead of the Apple Maps app? I mentioned the steps to do this before but if you missed them, here they are again:

    1. Open "maps.google.com" in Safari.
    2. At the bottom of the screen in the middle, click the little redirect arrow Screen Shot 2012-09-20 at 8.41.44 AM.png
    3. From the menu that pops up, choose "Add to Home Screen".

Now you've got an icon that will act just like an app and take you directly to Google Maps.

I'd really rather do that than try to restore IOS 5.1.1. But that's me. Your mileage may vary.

Tom :)macwave:... just don't blame me or say I didn't warn you!)

    Thanks.
I'm going to give it a few days to see if Ivan get used to the changes, if not then I will have to try and downgrade.
I wouldn't mind but I use maps a lot due to work.

Then try the Google Maps fix I suggested above. It acts just like an app and works quite well.

Tom :)macwave:... try it. You'll like it!)

Yep. Seems to be quite a few issues with it over there on your side of the pond.

The Irish seem to be especially put out that Airfield now actually is.

Not one of Apple's finer moments.

In a way i dont want to be too negative but I think after all the praising I do of Apple, it's right and proper to comment when they do something wrong.

This is all because of "issues" with google. They do this from time to time, they get personal with newspaper reviewers and stop inviting them to future events. They dislike companies and so drop them completely... they do act a little spoilt from time to time and I think this is one of those times. Doesnt seem like their maps was REALLY ready but they steamed ahead to try and hurt google at the expense of users. Not good.

    +1

This is one area where they need to stop acting like Steve Jobs and grow up.

    Ok slowly rebuilding my iPad

The maps were ok when out and about today but there is zero satellite images for our corner of Britain , not a gimmick for me as I always found photos a really useful aid when looking for things on foot, not so much driving

Had an problem with iCloud syncing but think I have finally got that sorted

Lost all my videos and photos taken with my iPad :(

Siri is great on the iPad and enjoying that

On the phone earlier there seemed to be a massive battery drain from 20% down to 0 in about an hour and I had nothing turned on at all, hmm

The Apple Youtube app is gone. But Google has put their own out. Just search the app store for YouTube and it'll come up.

    Tom :)macwave:... works pretty good.)

    Again I say, MEH.

I will say I've enjoyed the update more on the iPad, than the iPhone. But otherwise, meh :)

OK slept on it , long day farting about rebuilding the iPad but its running so much better now, clearly picked up a rather significant bug early on . Not sure why it never backed up but there were none in the preferences of iTunes and it would always freeze trying to back up to the cloud as well

Anyway a complete wipe and reboot and all is well and it is now backing up. Shame about the photos and videos, game progress etc

iOS 6 much better on iPad than phone but then it wasn't really made for the 4 I suppose

Realsing I used maps far more than I thought I did and in my little backwater of the country they are really very poor I am sad to say - will link to gopogle maps as Tom said until fixed - I am sure Apple has been made painfully aware of their shortcomings in the last few hours

A youtube app is avaliable on the iphone already

Siri is astonishing , having never played with it before - massively impressed

Anyone else having battery issues on their iPhone 4?

Actually its quite alarming the rate of loss - I have no apps open and no bluetooth on etc and I can watch the % numbers dropping at a rate of one every 20 seconds or so

Hope the 5 isn't like this
