For those of you who have seen the news about the protests and state of emergency in Bangkok - don't worry! We flew home yesterday and are safe and sound!

We had a bit of a scary moment on Sunday afternoon driving back into Bangkok when we heard the state of emergency had been declared and that they were ordering the army in, complete with tanks! The back entrance to our hotel was blocked and we had to go the "long" way round to get back.

We did have to pass a small area of protesters and tanks! but we stayed put in the hotel after that and left first thing yesterday. Got home at midnight last night so this is the first chance I've had to post!

Just seen the other thread enquiring after us - do you want to maybe merge this one with that?

Mr Oblivious had his head in his DS the whole time! But yes, the guide and I were quite concerned! I think the guide was more worried than he was letting on! There were lots of mobile calls made in the 2 1/2 hours we took to get back to Bangkok.

We went up to the River Kwai area - terrific experience; very moving and even Mr Oblivious was impressed and <gasp> may have even learned something!

Credit to your guide for not letting on he was more concerned than you realised, what an experience Kazza - good and bad.

My concerns now are far more mundane! Several loads of laundry and it's bucketing with rain - has been for several days apparently!

I can only imagine how unsettling it must have been for you Kazza. To have the guide imply worry, plus having your DS with you... eeesh, my heart goes out to you for those hours you must have been worried. :hug2:

You know, it's really hard to decide where to travel anymore, isn't it? Herself and I have been dreaming of a safari trip for years. We thought Tanzania would be nice. When we got truly serious, Tanzania (and Kenya, our other thought) both erupted. :sigh:

Some holidays are age driven. I don't think either of us want to be much older and attempt to do a safari holiday!

I'll bet your DH was beyond relieved to have you both home safe and sound!!!

Now, about that rain! I hope it isn't causing problems. :(

My DH had no idea - he doesn't turn the TV on when aren't there and because it was a holiday weekend there were no newspapers.

I rang him when we got to Sydney and he was like "what trouble?" Honestly!

The rain stopped about lunchtime yesterday - good thing too, I managed to get some things dry! :laundryline:

We're hanging on tight, Deb!

Kazza! That is sort of funny, and kind of scary! I guess it's best to be oblivious to the potential for worry, eh? (I'm too much of a worrier to be really comfortable with that statement)!
