how good or bad is american airlines?

    they seem a bit like virgin in that you can choose seats and do all that before although they dont go direct to orlando.

    Are they stable financially and pretty good generally?

    They have received a high rating for satisfaction here in the states. I've not flown with them in a while, but many of my colleagues do (their hub is in Texas, and those co-workers in Texas use American Airlines exclusively).

    Any time I ever used them, I didn't have a problem.

    Never used them but friends go every year tornado chasing and they use them without complaint (they're pretty picky too so AA must be doing something right!)

    If you seriously consider them (or any other US carrier), be sure to check the international luggage policy. All of the US airlines have changed their domestic luggage policies, so just in case....check first! :)

    I flew with them...fantastic...course I bought my tickets before the luggage rules came into play....but then I dont really have too much of a choice here

    We used them in August and found them to be ok.
