Stayed there when it was The Holiday Inn a fair few years ago and love it.
The room we had in the tower had a great view of I Drive and was huge.

I think for me it's important that the pool is open late. It helps me relax after a busy day. Other than that as long as it has a bed and it's clean I'm happy :)

Only downside for me would be that is in on I Drive. This area has become somewhat seedy over the past 10 years or so. I used to love strolling up and down there, now I go nowhere near the place. Full of cheap t-shirt shops and rubbish buffets.

You know I looked at trip adviser last year just before a break I had booked at the Alton towers resort, it absolutely slated it, I was very worried! How did I find it.... Well I'm going back there for 4 days this year!!!!
Sometimes people are happy to moan but forget to praise!
I wouldn't worry, the competition is so high the standard surely would be of a fairly good standard? On our last visit our virgin flight was delayed until the next day, I was very worried about the hotel, on I drive, what sort of hotel would have enough empty rooms to home a plane full of people? I needn't have worried it was amazing(the Rosen inn) so I wouldn't worry :)

Thanks for the advice, we pretty much want a bed in a room as we don't intend being around the hotel for most parts if the day and sometimes evenings.....so I'm sure we will be fine??? ;)

Trip advisor is really for those who are unhappy. Comapared to negativity there isn't a great deal of positive comments.

Even some of the Disney hotels on there are bashed and most of us here would not hesitate to stop at Disney.

Pinch of salt I think is needed.

    I haven't stayed there unfortunately.

As I said, I can't speak for this particular hotel. With regard to Trip Advisor, I do use it quite frequently. I also contribute reviews to that service. I strive for balance, describing all the good things about a place (restaurant, hotel, attraction) and giving clear definition of those things I didn't like. I do read the reviews carefully and if the complaints are not quantified, I dismiss them. I hope that makes sense?

I do find public reviews helpful, and I have changed my plans because of them. I've ignored negative reviews and been quite happy with the accommodation. I've also been very unhappy as a result of ignoring negative reviews, so much so one time, that I refused to stay at the hotel and changed places that very night (not in FL).

So, with anything, it's a matter of reading carefully, and checking more than one source whenever possible.

I think that's how it should be done.

But I think many others forget the positives especially if they've had a negative experience. Also, people tend to exaggerate there negatives too so what seems like a really bad experience was most likely not as bad as being made out.

Obviously there are always exceptions to this.

I think the key as you say is checking more than one source and using sites like this one to double check (and even tripple check) that the accommodation is the right one for your needs.

I think for me this is why I try and stay on site where I can, as I know I am less likely to have a bad experience and if I do have a bad exerience Disney are more likely to put it right from my experience.

Saying all that, having read what I have on here I have become more tempted to try something like a villa on our next trip.

A villa can be a wonderful way to maximize your holiday comfort. Especially now with all the preplanning required with WDW, having your own space that you can use how you please (make your own meal when you choose to eat, swim when you like, rest, relax, etc.) is a huge benefit. Again, word of mouth and careful research are good ways to find nice villas.
