Hey all, my trip is coming up in 10 days & i'm trying to plan how to deal with some ebay auctions I have.

We just bought a laptop for our kids (well, & us, hehee) for Christmas. Can I use this in my room at SSR? I hate to sound so stupid but this is our first laptop & I'm not sure how it works in a hotel. Iknow most normal ones seem to advertise free wifi but this IS Disney we are talking about. Is it free or do you have a pay a fee. If anyone knows I would love the help because I'm going to need to go thru & cancel a bunch of auctions unless I can get service there.

    Thanks a bunch guys!

    Sure you can!

SSR has in room internet at $9.95 per contiguous 24hrs (total ripoff but Disney like you say).

Very easy, just plug the supplied ethernet cable into the ethernet/network port on the laptop and call up internet explorer/firefox. It'll take you right to a page where you accept the charge which will appear on your room bill. It'll work for 24hrs after which you'll be taken back to the page to pay again.

You have to have a Credit Card on file to do it though...

You can also look into getting an air card from a mobile phone carrier too. I have a Verizon air card and it's really wonderful. You will then have internet nearly every place you go.

I read that on a website & I hope it's true as I am DVC member AND using points! Am I going to need any special chords to hook up my laptop or should what came with it do the trick? Sorry to ask so many simple questions but am novice laptop owner.

Do they supply an ethernet chord for you or should my laptop have come with one?

Yay! Ok, I feel so much better now. This may end up being much easier than i anticipated. When we had to live in the hotel for a month after our fire a friend loaned us a laptop. Well, we never could get the thing to work. Would have been great if we could have but we just couldn't & the help we got was minimal & of no use. So that has been my one & only experience with a laptop & with a laptop in a hotel. So I was feeling a bit anxious.

Looks like it's going to be A-Ok! Thanks Sarah, Keith & Tink for letting me know :)

Tink, how does the air card work? Do you need a separate ISP?

I see them in stores, but haven't had the time to stop and read the information. :sigh: Not that I shop that much, anyway!

    Thanks!

    spot on!

They work great if a little slow and the cell provider is the ISP. Some come with dedicated software to get them to work but basically they're easy enough and as long as you have cell phone coverage, you'll have internet

Yep. What they said. :D I have a Verizon one and seem to have less problems with it than my colleagues who us Sprint.

They can be a bit slow, but it's really not too bad. I've learned that if I have my VPN to my corporate office open, that will slow down my 'net access. It's easy enough to disconnect the VPN when I'm using the 'net and then reconnect when I want to access something via the VPN.

I have no idea how much they are though. I think somewhere around $60 per month to start, but I truly have no idea.

So do those cards that work off your cell burn cell minutes? Because if not, that's a great idea & i may have to consider it.
