The 1964-65 New York World’s Fair theme was “Peace Through Understanding,” and no exhibition better embodied this idea than “it’s a small world.”

The look and feel of the whimsical entrances to this now-landmark attraction at Disney Parks around the world are well-known, but the look of the exterior of the New York World’s Fair pavilion was quite different from the familiar facades we know today.

In these rare photos you can see just how different it was from what we see in the parks; yet it is, decidedly, a “Disney look.” To me, it looks like Tomorrowland at Disneyland park, circa 1967.

Awesome Pictures. It's a Small World although not one of my favorites is still a huge Disney classic attraction.

Brings back a fond memory! I was but seven at the time. There was nothing like it in my life at that time. It was like going from the black and white to the color part in the Wizard of Oz!

I wonder if Mama saw it there? She loved Small World. But she LOVED dolls, so it's no surprise. I remember going to the World Exposition in Montreal, but do not remember anything about the NY World's Fair. I really like the vintage photos, Wendy. Thank you for finding them, and sharing them with us.

I would have loved to be born to see It's A Small World at the New York Fair.

It was really special though! The whole World's Fair was like Epcot on steroids, at least that is the way I remember it. Hard to believe that they did so much for just a 2 year exposition. It was a different time.

John, I remember the Habitat. I thought it was SO cool. I remember too an Asian woman in one of the pavilions demonstrating the use of chopsticks by using my hair. I was too impressed! LOL

Molly, I have shoes older than you! :D :D S'okay, kiddo. We're all whatever age we feel ourselves to be. Me? I'm about a hundred. ;) :D
