Title says it all really. What are the pluses and minuses of going to WDW in June?
We've taken 3 sets of grandchildren, all in mid June and it has been great. We were fortunate to have great weather, except for the afternoon cloudbursts. We didn't have any overwhelming heat and the crowds were manageable. The next set we will be forced to go later in the month and I fear we will be butting up against the 4th of July crowds.
We always tend to go in May and December but have occasionally strayed to end of may, beginning of June.
I have to say, we notice a huge difference doing that. Of course some years are different to others weather wise, but we find May is generally well controlled heat, not over the top, few rain showers/thunderstorms. Swap to June and the afternoon downpours become more predictably consistent and seem to last longer, the heat is more intense to the point we don't like the parks in the afternoon because they're just too hot.
I wouldn't say we've been put off June, but I think we prefer May
The only time I went in June it rained solidly for 5 days- that was the last week of June
What about Easter? I'm looking into that myself for 2015, about to post a thread
Easter is an option. It's not for us as I work in a school so June is out. I'm asking on behalf of a couple in their seventies so wondered if they'd struggle with the heat. Is there much difference in crowd level between Easter, May and June?
Im not sure, What about first 2 weeks of December? Low crowds and usually sun everyday and roundabout 21/22 degrees
I'll certainly mention December to them.
I'd go then every time if I could. Flights are cheaper too - around £500
I rate first two weeks of December above all the other options I really do
So you think given their age this would be a better choice for them? They're in good health but the lower the crowds, heat etc the better. Another thing - apart from the food and wine festival, are there any other festivals worth noting?
undoubtedly so! The only caveat I would mention is, if someone says "I really like to sunbathe" then December can be too mild for that. Not HUGELY so, but DW prefers May as she can pretty much lie by the pool any time of the day whereas a typical December won't be like that.
That aside, I find December to be great weather wise, much less showery, much less humidity, less crowded by a LONG way at Disney and of course, all the Christmas decorations and celebrations are there
The food&wine is perhaps the best festival. I prefer it to the garden one BUT even f&w isnt what it once was... there's the mickeys christmas party in dec which I still like
December is absolutely the better choice over June. June sees the beginning of hurricane season and the humidity is really noticeable. It can rain mercilessly, and often does for days on end (think monsoon). For anyone not used to the high temperatures, the humidity (which makes everything feel hotter) and the storms, then choose the first two weeks in December.
BEEN IN JUNE NO PROBLEM NOW I PREFER SEPTEMBER BUT IT DEPENDS ON YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES
