    Kona Cafe - March 14th, 2014 - Dinner 5pm

The restaurant looked as good as ever. We were the first ones seated after the restaurant had reopened for dinner. We got one of the only two two person booth on the far left hand side of the restaurant. Our server was very good. We started with a sushi appetizer, the lava roll...togarashi-spiced tempura shrimp, bay scallops, spicy mayo and chives. It was excellent! We also received the complementary Hawaiian bread with the macadamia nut butter. Another excellent starter.

My wife order a dirty martini and I an Arnold Palmer. After drinking about a quarter of it my wife had to send hers back, she said it just didn't taste right. They did so without a problem. My Arnold Palmer was "ok" but I really could not taste much lemonade in it.

For the entrees my wife order the Sesame Seared Sea Scallops. While they were delicious they were almost half the size they used to be and you still only get four of them. I ordered the Teriyaki-style New York Strip. It was cooked perfectly and was a good size. It tasted very good but there was a bit of fat still on the cut.

We ended up skipping desert since we ordered an appetizer and ate all the bread. All in all, an enjoyable meal with an atmosphere we enjoy but for $100 (including 20% tip) it didn't quite live up to the price.

Not sure how much the Martini was since we were not charged for it but the glass of champagne she replaced it with was $9. I believe the Arnold Palmer was $3.50.

oh right just trying to gauge how much stuff was. We were on the DDP when we ate there for dinner so didn't really look and when i paid out of pocket it was lunch time and we just had an entree so I thought it was quite good value :)

Thank you for your excellent review, DisneyFreak! I have to agree with you. The cost seems a bit over the top.

I actually think this is one of the most reasonable, as Johnie says nowhere is cheap at WDW

Very true but some of them are more worth it when compared to others.

Interesting, DF. I ordered a dirty martini at Kona last time we were there (in October) and also had to send it back - I would swear it was almost 75% vermouth! They replaced it (as you said) without a problem, and the second time around it was fantastic.

Loved the scallops last time we were there, I'm disappointed to hear they've downsized it.
