So in May we're going to be travelling with premium service thomas cook for a change. They do a twilight checkin at manchester the night before the flight which sounds like it's a good plan!

Now, we're useless on the morning of the flight :( we get picked up at some insane time like 5am because we worry about traffic, then, half asleep, we stumble through the airport and wait for hours in a boring lounge until the 9 hr flight arrives.

I can't help thinking that all signs point to staying at a hotel the evening before!

I've tried a quote from the raddison blu at manchester (is this the best one?) and it's £200 basically which sounds like rather a lot :/ I mean I'll pay it if it's worth it but is it???

You're probably better off staying in Manchester central, in Piccadilly, then getting the train directly to the airport.
A quick search shows the first train is at 06.02 and takes 15 minutes to the airport. They seem to run every few minutes that early in the morning.

There are some lovely hotels in Manchester, probably all cheaper than £200!

We always leave from Manchester on our summer trip and always stay at Raddison Blu. Normally around the £110 mark.
It is so convenient...just a covered walkway to the terminals. We use the room service for breakfast which is pretty yummy. Always request a runway view and usually get a view of the planes coming in and out while eating breakfast.

    Clean hotel and helpful staff.

£210....no, afraid not. That is too much.
We just stay in a standard room and it is fine. Never had any complaints.

We've stayed there twice when we've had no choice but to fly from Manchester. I can't say I think much of it to be honest. We stayed there because of the convenience for the airport.

First time we asked to be moved as the room was gross, second time, I think I set my standards low before we got there

I know it's pointless mentioning it, but as a comparison of an onsite airport hotel, the Hilton at Gatwick is much nicer and is way cheaper than £210, blimey you'd get an executive room for that!

If it was me, I'd save my money and resign myself to an early morning drive.

fair enough :) that answers that!

Im thinking thomas cook may well have a huge checkin queue on the day but whatever, it's not the end of the world and it does say premium has a "priority checkin"

See I stayed at Hilton Gatwick and had the worst room ever, got flea or bed bug bites all over me arias, and I'm not joking. I wouldn't pay £210 for Rad Blu neither. Do a search for Premier Inn at Rungar Lane Keef, it's next to the Travel lodge I've used, about 10 mins from the airport, they do a shuttle to the airport. It's not as old as TLodge and has good reviews.

Hilton has had a complete refurb Esme, it's really nice again now. I'll admit it did get tatty but what happened to you sounds awful.

There are some nice Premier Inns around, we stay in them quite a lot if we are having a weekend away. Never thought of them Keith, have a look and see what their prices are like or as your personal holiday planner, do you want me to look for you :taunt:

arghh  tbh I dont think i'll bother with anywhere else. If it was just a walk to the airport across a bridge I can cope with that. Any more faffing and I may as well just drive to the airport on the morning

Oh never mind all that Keef, Wendy I was thinking we should start with the Grand Floridian and work our way backwards from there, via Gaylord Palms and the Peabody.... what you think?
