Very sad - RIP and condolences to his family. What a sad thing to happen.
I do feel sorry for the loss and am glad there was no one in the cockpit (reportedly). I did some research, the safety protocals would have had stopped the monorail between 500 to 1000 feet from the parked monorail. The only exception to this is if the pilot were to have pressed the override. I think this now would require more than a pressing of a button, but a multi-stage override. Multi-stage override should have been in effect already.
Prayers and condolences to the drivers family.
