is photopass no more then? does it work differently? There are going to be 2 families travelling together- will we be able to get 2 cards or whatever they are now so we can share an account?

such a good question! It's hard because who knows if they've changed the names of everything ot just photopass+.

I THINK the story is that photopass is the same as ever. You get a free card, go around getting your picture taken and you can view online free but then if you want to get a larger digital download or a cd, print etc. you pay accordingly.

Memory maker is the old photopass+ in which you get a special card to show. Everything works the same way except that at the end, you get to either get a CD (or more usually now) a digital download of full size photos of your trip. You can also get some ride photos added free to your card and you'll get photo print packages from certain locations like the luau/hoop dee doo etc.

You can get multiple regular PhotoPass cards and link multiple people together through the app. But, while you are split up, only the person with the Memory Maker card will be able to add ride and dining photos. Anyone will be able to add regular PhotoPass photos by getting a regular card from the photographer.

All, you know, in theory and all that :)

If you have magic bands, you don't need a "card," they just scan your band :) Quite handy!

See I think this is where it all gets a bit eeksome but still

I don't think at this point you would get a magic band by default. I think you'll have an RFID park ticket. Whether this has recently changed and whether you could ask FOR a band and put the park ticket on that I don't yet know.

In theory you can link the band to your account by using the 12 digit ID code of the band... then it'll group you together on the my disney experience web page

I've got a meeting with a disney magicband "specialist" in may to ask questions from site members so I may find out more then. I'm interested to see what happens to my magic band which I got onsite in December and applied my annual pass to. Will it work in May? some folks say definitely yes, others say no because it'll expire it at end of onsite stay. We shall see!

oooh that sounds exciting, hope you get some answers. The geek in me really wants a band but if it's going to be a load of hassle then i'm not really that bothered :) I will be able to book Fast pass though won't I?

wellllll again :/ If you're not staying onsite, dont have an AP etc. then, as I understand it, you wont be able to make fastpass+ in advance like onsite/ap can... soooo...
"Visitors not staying on-site at Disney will not be able to make reservations in advance, and will not be allowed to make or modify reservations using the My Disney Experience mobile app. It's the kiosks on the day of your visit or nothing for attraction reservations."

How many will be left after the advanced bookings is anyone's guess

I must admit I thought they'd started including the off site guests on advance booking of FP. We have over 500 days to see anyway lol

I said this and was told well we cant because we dont know when their trip is due to start so we'd get people on the internet prebooking passes and selling them to people

So perhaps they'll eventually ask when your trip will start and issue tickets for that period on a band/ticket. THAT Would mean they'd know when your trip was and could allow advanced passes

    Who knows!

I think Keith has covered it all very well

One thing with the pastpass+ or Memory Maker as it is called now. If you are separate from your family members and they decide to go on a ride, then they need to take a note of the picture number when they come off the ride. The person with the original card can then get the photos added to the memory maker package. I don't know how it will work with dining though, but I'm guessing you will all be together then.

As Keith said, at the moment it is only onsite guests and annual or Florida pass holders that can get the bands. I can't see Disney losing money from off site guests so you can bet that at some stage offsite guests will be able to swap their RFID card for a band.

After doing some research it would seem that some have been able to put their ticket numbers into the Disney site and book fast passes even though they're not staying on site 60 days in advance. I can see a problem there with TAs that only issue tickets at welcome meetings or paper tickets that you need to exchange.

We probably won't do that much dining to be honest, maybe one with Mickey and a princess one so no biggie there. We probably will spend quite a bit apart in the parks but as you say that can be rectified :)
