There are a few shows DW would quite like to see (please don't ask me which, you'll just depress me) but there are just so many hotels and I've no real idea which are nice.

I've stayed at the stratosphere and although ok it was too far down the wrong end of the strip so I don't necessarily want that one.

Caesars palace was ok last year, heck ok who am I kidding, better than ok it's a great hotel but I feel like i've been there and done that.

So... any recommendations? Bellagio? Venetian? Luxor?

We stayed at the MGM Grand which was great but i think you need more in the middle. For you and Helen the Bellagio would be fantastic!

I almost booked the Bellagio, but opted to save half the cost and went with the Flamingo instead.

...Should have stuck with the Bellagio.

The Venetian is gorgeous inside, very romantic :)

The Bellagio is very nice it is mega posh

Didn't you go for a wander round the hotels when you were there last year?

We were kinda rushed to be honest! it was a business trip (cough) so I was rushing here there and everywhere to try and fulfill my obligations as well as take DW places.

We DID wander round the venetian back years ago and certainly gorgeous

All right. Finally got a chance to talk to my "expert".

By pure coincidence, my DW's son called last night. Living in Los Angeles, he and his DW go to LV quite a bit. As I've mentioned before, he does the casting for a rather popular sitcom. He was calling from a chartered jet where the cast and crew of said sitcom were on their way to LV to shoot an episode. I took the opportunity to ask him what he considered the nicest hotels in Vegas. These were his two picks:
The Vdara is rather interesting in that it's an all suite, non-gaming, smoke free hotel. It's located at City Center on the Las Vegas strip and is connected to the Bellagio. When I look at the pictures of it online, the first thing that goes through my mind is "oh... shiny"!

The Wynn is more north on the strip. Right across from "The Fashion Show". This shopping center has some restaurants including Maggiano's Little Italy. This is where Allen and his DW had their wedding reception when my DW and I flew out there.

This trip however, the cast and crew of the show he's working with are staying at the Mandalay Bay. Ain't getting comped in great!

Tom ( :macwave:... for your consideration.)

Mandalay Bay is nice as well, there is another part to the hotel at the back which is more exclusive, but I can't remember what it's called.

I must say I really like the look of the Vdara.

Only stayed at the MGM. We liked it but I think others are mote upscale: Belagio, Luxor, and Venetian to name a few.

The Venitian & Ceasers Palace and both central and tip top.

A little further afield, the Luxor is quite nice too and quite a bit cheaper to boot.

We've always liked Treasure Island and The Golden Nugget (Fremont St). Haven't been back since 2001 though.

Wow - hadn't heard that. It may have been a few years since I've been but it was one of the lowest on the lists for a refurb IMO, though some of the tech in the rooms (memorably the brick sized bath phone!) was somewhat dated I guess!

Is the Luxor the one with the lifts that go sideways?

    That's the one - it's the pyramid.
