Stand back, folks. Jon is about to attempt crafting!!

It all started in 2011 when we spent Christmas at Disney World. Christmas night, we took a "sleigh ride" through the Ft. Wilderness Campground. It was LOVELY! (Sorry for the sub par photos, the horse wouldn't exactly cooperate, but you get the idea - kitchy, cheesy and oh so much fun!

During our ride, we noticed that quite a few campsites had one of these:

It may be a bit hard to tell from the photo, but what you're looking at is a Mickey head lamp post, and I was IN LOVE. Our guide for the evening confided in us that they were all handmade by Ft. Wilderness residents and that they were easily created with items from the local hardware store.

Well folks, it's only taken me 15 months of eye-batting, cajoling, bribery, and bartering and Jon has agreed to attempt to make me one of these delightful lamp posts! Yep you heard right, and I thought you might enjoy joining me on the journey :) Patience please, it could be a lengthy one.

Step 1: Jon alters the instructions.

    ( Shocking I know  )
Jon has decided that the 12 inch globe-head paired with the 6 inch globe-ears is not proportionally accurate. So, he has decided that a 10"/6" proportion looks better. Right then. So far, he has secured the necessary globes (pictured below) and the "guts" to make it glow (pay no mind to the dog treats on the counter).

Next up is purchasing a 3 ¼ inch hole saw to make holes for the "ears" to slip into the "head." This is the part that may get tricky......stay tuned! Cost so far: $55.

If all goes well, this is what the final product should look like (with Jon's alterations, of course :) )

Quick poll, who agrees with Jon that the 10"/6" is a better fit, and who believes he should just stick to the instructions?

Was it JCPenny? I did a search, and while I didn't find them at Sears, I did find that JCP used to have something similar. However, they no longer carry it.

Ultimately ours will be built on an existing lamp post - so a bit more permanent (and hopefully sturdy) than the JCP one, and FAR, FAR less costly!

It certainly could have been JCP. My memory is getting foggy in my old age

Not sure what is more cool, the lamp itself or the topic "this old mouse". Because you sleigh me.

I sort of kind of tend to agree, but I'm not going to make a fuss...I'm more than happy to allow him poetic license if it gets the job done

Besides, we both agree it's possible we'll go through several iterations of the large globe (3 inch hole in a plastic globe? yeah.) before the job is done, so we may change our minds along the way.

This weekend: purchasing a saw that allegedly makes holes...I've never heard of such a thing!

Let's wait and see how the finished product turns out, Dan - could most definitely be the topic title in the end ;) Punny, btw.

It's true  and they work very well, they go on the end of an electric or battery drill :D Chris has got all different sorts for cutting through wood, plastic, tiles and walls - not that he ever uses them anymore
