I honestly can't tell you the difference between the two sections (same resort, different themes to a small extent) because ever since they changed the name from Dixie Landings I'm totally confused!

I can tell you it's a lovely resort with a nice food court and a full service restaurant. There is a ferry to DTD, and buses to the other parks.

It has room for five in some of the rooms which makes it a nice choice for families of five (where the other WDW resorts limit the occupancy to 4).

There are some options for horse drawn carriage rides, musical entertainment (Piano Bob) etc. at the resort.

I know some of our members have stayed there (I've only ever visited my brother when he was staying there) and truly enjoyed the place.

Someone will come along soon and give you more useful information, I'm sure!

Well I love them both :)

Riverside is huge and the busses have several stops around the resort which can take some time. The theming is excellent and totally relaxed. There's a bar with piano bob playing there, a fairly large shop and a restaurant.

French quarter is styled differently of course but is MUCH smaller. Only one bus stop and you can walk quickly round the whole place. There's a bar with a jazz player there but no restaurant.

There's a boat to and from downtown disney at both resorts :) There's also other stuff like fishing, carriage rides etc.

Honestly I personally dont think you can go wrong at either but it's certainly true that some prefer the larger resort and some prefer the intimacy of the smaller.

Personally when we found Port Orleans Riverside we loved it. We stayed there for the next four holidays and just thought it was great. The next time, POR was booked and we had to go to POFQ and guess what, we discovered we liked that one even better  It's the attention to detail and the feel of the place which is amazing.

People often say the buses go first to POFQ which is true quite a lot of the time but not 100% in our experience.

 I think you'll love FQ, it's one of our favorites!! Riverside is great too but much larger. You also can't beat the beignets at the FQ!!

I walked through both resorts and definitely like the feel of the French Quarter over the Riverside. I'm not a fan of the south (just my own personality, ya know) and to me, it just felt like I was stuck in the middle of the south, in the middle of nowhere.

I think you will love PORFQ...it was one of or favorite if not favorite places we have stayed onsite. RIverside was nice to see, but it was much larger and we liked the ambiance of the FQ. The pool is nice too. There is a nice walkway to the Riverside along the canal. That was fun to walk to Boatwrights for bite to eat.

I don't think you can go wrong really as whichever you choose you can visit the other ad use the facillities.

We have only stayed at Riverside and we loved it, I personally prefer the theming there over FQ but that is just personal preference and I would happily stay at either, I loved the boat to DTD and the horse and carriage ride (book in advance if possible as it can get very busy) and the bike and boat rental from the resort.

    :)

We stayed at Riverside in 2007 and we loved it and had a lovely walk across to the french quarter and found that smaller, but i'm sure you will like it there.
