On average, do villas only rent in incremental weeks? That's to say, they don't typically rent for a few days at a time, correct?

Some of them do Becca, some of them do have minimums though. In my experience of renting over there and here it's often cheaper going with a UK owner :)

it certainly gives you space, and a private pool and home comforts. You can also make your own breakfast/coffee etc when you want- if that's what you want to do :)

Well, there are several factors really -
    • My mom LOVES the pool. I could see her REALLY spending a lot of time there. Plus they are early risers/coffee drinkers; so I could see them both sitting out by the pool having their morning coffee while the kids (and Jon) slept in a bit on days.
    • Though my dad is doing well, we don't want to over do things, so I can see us having quite a bit of downtime built into our days, and I like the idea of still being able to "hang out" even when we aren't in the parks/on the go.
    • My dad lost all of his permanent teeth during radiation/chemo (the treatment simply broke down all of the bone in his jaw, and he had to have them removed). He is in the process of having implants/dentures (whatever they deem best), but it may not be complete by the time we go, so the idea of having access to a kitchen, where he and my mom can make whatever is best for him when necessary, is appealing.

i think a villa would be a great idea then Becca. It can be really relaxing and you get a better nights sleep than in a hotel i think

I think a villa would be much better for your parents Becca. It is much more relaxing than staying in a hotel, you can have lazy days sitting by the pool, eating breakfast on the lanai is lovely.

Another plus point is that you will have a car and can take everyone to Yellow Dog Eats :D

Most owners have a minimum stay but is is usually 3 days so it doesn't have to be a full week.

It will be nice for your family to all be together :)

Have you looked into OKW? They have very large villas (the Grand Villa is incredible). I don't need to know, but if you are all sharing the cost, it could be affordable on that basis.

You know, Tink, it never even crossed my mind...I'll have a look right now!

The other option we're seriously considering is two rooms at POR-FQ. I am confident they would love (utterly fall in love) with this resort - I know this with all my heart. And if there's a free dining offer coming out during this time, it might be worth it. The big thing is waiting to see how his diet changes over the next month or so to see if this is feasible.

    Still pondering...

It really is, isn't it? I can so see them wandering along the Sassagoula River, and taking in Piano Bob...it's quite lovely there.

We rented a house in 2003 when we took my dad. It was great. I loved everything about it. The only thing we did wrong was buying too much food lol
