nonprofit supported by the owner of Busch Gardens Tampa has awarded $1.2 million to support wildlife research, habitat protection, animal rescue and conservation education in 2013.

The SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund funded 93 projects as far away as Antarctica, and as close by as Tierra Verde and Sarasota.

In Florida, these include Tampa Bay Watch, Sea to Shore Alliance, Florida Keys Wildlife Rescue and Audubon Center for Birds of Prey.

Contributions from the public, including park guests, as well as from private organizations and SeaWorld support the fund, a spokesman said.

Orlando-based SeaWorld foots administrative and development costs, staffing and infrastructure. It also places zoological staff in the field to work with researchers.
