Walt Disney World has confirmed that the Sorcerer's Hat at Hollywood Studios will be removed in early 2015.

Nothing has been mentioned about a replacement.

How do you feel about this, are you glad it's going or will you miss it?

Was just on the evening news. I've never liked the hat, so it's no loss to me. Then, I'm not a real fan of DHS anyway. :sorry:

I didn't know Disney before it came on the scene so I guess it will look strange to me. I liked that people could could get a picture with it so it looked like it was on their head.

I actually liked the hat way more than the biting water tower. Hopefully Disney has something great to replace it.

It's iconic as it goes back to Mickey in Fantasia. It is a shame it has to go but IMHO that whole park needs an upgrade.

I liked the hat and I will miss it, but it was a shame it blocked the wonderful Chinese theatre - removing it will make it feel a little more like Hollywood.

... Which is odd, as they seem to moving away from the 'working studio in Hollywood' theme.

Does this mean the Chinese theatre will be on show or will they replace the hat with something else?

There was a rumour the Chinese theatre along with the great movie ride was going to make way for a new walk way between what will be Pixar place and Star Wars land.

Maybe this is the first step?

The hat has not been there all that long, maybe 13 or so years. It was a huge, and invasive view changer when they put it in, and many people didn't like it. The water tower had, up to that point, been the symbol of MGM/DHS.

It will be interesting to see what they do next.

I believe it's been there since 2001 as it was built the year we first went. I quite like it but am interested to see what it'll be without it.
The thing I wonder about, is what will the emblem of the park now be? On merchandise you get the four parks with the four emblems, do you think the theatre will replace it?

I remember it when it wasn't there and when we went and saw it for the first time I thought it was horrible.

I guess over the years I've just "got used to it"

Will be glad to see it gone :)

I don't know Vikki, I never thought of that. I don't think it will be the theatre. I'm guessing something else will be put in the same place but I think it will be left empty until there is a celebration or they want to advertise something.

Worse case scenario - they put something to do with Frozen there :(

I shall be really happy to see it gone and hopefully nothing else will block that lovely view ever again.

I reckon the great movie ride will go soon, I don't think it's as relevant as it once was

I agree but the people that remember most of the movies featured are getting older. I was watching a brilliant programme about MGM studios yesterday and Jon and I were talking about it.

I wonder if they could update some of it? Are gangsters and cowboys relevant anymore?

Updating would be good. I think Alien and Tarzan need to go.
