Space Mountain is set to begin its expected year long refurbishment on April 19, 2009. It is expected to open late 2009 with no specific date being given so far. During the refurb, the TTA People Mover (nooooooooooooooooo!) will also occasionally be closed for the Space Mountain work to be carried out since the TTA goes through space mountain as part of the ride

I can live without Space Mountain now - it's an age thing I think it rattles my head too much  Hopefully that is what they are changing :D But really hope the TTA is open when we go :fingers:

TBH it badly badly needs a good refurb it does look very 70's in an area that was supposed to represent ' tomorrow'

I think DLP pulled a masterstroke by going for the Jules Verne look that way it will never look outdated

Agreed, it is in definite need of some updating...Baleigh and I were on the ride last trip when there was a short malfunction in which we were sat in the "launch tube" for nearly 20 mins. While we sat there, the lights came on and we had a look around...wow...the amount of duct tape being used in that building was SHOCKING...

It's a shame it will be down for so long..but I think it's necessary :D

Duct tape? Now that's scary!! I'm not a SM fan, so no fuss that it's down from me. Would be good to have it brought up to modernity though. :D :D

Guess I better hop a ride on the original Space Mtn. while I can when we get there in a few days. I'm one of those weird people that doesn't ever want any of the rides to change. I know that would be boring but I like them the way I remember them. But yeah, I guess it could stand some updating.

I'm shocked so many love TTA! How nice! My oldest daughter & I also love this ride. My husband looks at it as snooze time & my youngest, well, she doesn't really care one way or another but Courtney & I always HAVE to do this at least once. And isn't it the best on those icky, hot summer trips? And never a wait no matter what time of year. I fear that it will go 'seasonal' like CoP due to the lack of people that seem to ride it.

 I love it that most of us are upset about TTA more than Space Mountain. I absolutely love TTA and always ride it several times per trip, but always pass on SM (way to jerky for me).

I'm going to be cranky if the TTA is closed next summer when I go. I may just have to have Becca and Johnie have some words with Disney about this!!!!

I for one hope that they refurb it so that you can take an ECV all the way through. I love SM, but I rarely ride it as I must choose to either transfer to a regular wheelchair and make Marcus kill himself pushing up that steep incline around all those sharp corners or kill myself trying to walk it with just my cane. Either way is truly a pain....our last trip, we actually sent Jordan tthrough on his own once.

Wowie, lots of love for the TTA....love the old WEDway! Our family ALWAYS rides it! SM is a good ride, but yes it could use a bit of refurb. Lots of WDW tomorrowland looked well yesterland...like the Contemp resort. They are sort of kitchy though in their take on tomorrow.
