Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom is to be refurbished in September. The dates are:

    • 3 September to 5 September 2013
    • 10 September to 12 September 2013
    • 23 September to 26 September 2013

Some information has been released that states the refurbishment work will involve trim brakes being added along the track with the aim of reducing the speed during parts of the ride.

This is the bad thing about going in September, there is always something out for a refurb!

After riding it last year after it's major refurb, I was disapointed.

I do feel that they should have taken the oportunity to completely change space mountain. Maybe not with loops and stuff but to make it a little more smooth.

Interesting that it's not one major shutdown and instead three shorter ones. Good for us though, as it won't be closed the entire time we're there - and it will be back up on our MNSSHP night...

My heart stopped for a second then. Glad they are doing it in small steps, means DDs will be able to ride :0)

Im glad it is going to be done in stages. It is one of the very few rides we bother with in MK. We should manage it! Thanks for the info Wendy.

Baleigh rode it for the first time when she was five :) She LOVED it so much. I say go for it. The only caveat I would add is if either of your girls are afraid of the dark...might want to reconsider then.

Abi is a little, we have watched the videoon YouTube more for the queue area than the ride, she gets scared walking through the cinema so I wanted to show her what it was like so she wouldn't freak out.
I think it will be a ride that we do on our second day in MK rather than the first after she has tried out a few others

One of the nice things about the latest "refurb" is the addition of the gaming systems in the queue - they move quite quick and are pretty easy to sort out - GREAT for distracting kids who are bored or apprehensive...
