There are changes in store for this year's Star Wars Weekends at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Disney have announced that there will be an additional week added to the event. The new dates are :

    Weekend 1: May 16 – 18, 2014
    Weekend 2: May 23 – 25, 2014
    Weekend 3: May 30 – June 1, 2014
    Weekend 4: June 6 – 8, 2014
    Weekend 5: June 13 – 15, 2014

It has also been revealed that there will be a nightly firework show which will be called “Symphony in the Stars2. This is the same show that Disney displayed for Limited Time Magic last year on May the Fourth.

Disney have also revealed that a “new evening experience” on Hollywood Blvd will be part of the weekends, but this has led to rumours that the Hyperspace Hoopla will be cancelled.

Whilst this news has pleased many fans, the rumoured loss of the Hyperspace Hoopla is a huge disappointment.

Will you be going to Star Wars Weekends?

I'm trying to convince Jon that a birthday/post-auction (our huge fund-raising gala the leaves my brain roughly the consistency of jello) trip is in order. He didn't NOT say yes...

    Perhaps just a long weekend...

It will probably be available to buy at the Park but I don't know if it will be available online.

It's a great event for walking around and seeing the kids interact with the characters, but my big problem is the huge tent they have for star wars merchandise :( Last year by the time I got there the queue was apparently 3 hours long to get in. Full summer heat, no shade in the queue and cms trying to make the best of it :/ The queue in front just snaked round and round on itself with nothing to do, see or protect from heat.

I asked the cms if there was anywhere else to get the merchandise and no was the answer.

I can't see them fixing it for this year either, the only thing I can think of is to get there mega early, run to the back of the park where the tent is and do all the shopping first thing but argh.

If you are thinking about doing that you will need to be there the night before or from 3am as that's when people start lining up. Absolutely crazy!

Where did you read that Wen? I must admit I've never tried to get there early but the park in and of itself wasnt TOO busy last year whilst it was on... just certain parts like the merchandise tent was crazy :(

Not sure I'd queue from 3am just to buy some posters and things which is really all it'd be

:WOW: this event must have grown exponentially over the last year or two! I remember going a couple of years ago, and wandering right into the tent...it was crowded, yes, but there was no line to get in, and I didn't feel claustrophobic with the crowds. The heaviest crowds were at the back to meet Luke, Leia, R2D2 and C3Po. We purchased a number of things, and the only thing I can remember waiting for was an engraved Star Tours name tag for Andrew.

I remember I REALLY wanted the Kermit/Yoda artwork I saw by Peter DeSeve called, "Easy Being Green It Is Not".

It's possible I went at a bad time :/ the meet and greets with the star wars characters were quite quiet actually! I'd say no more than a few minutes wait, it was just the tent that was insane

Not judging from what Wendy was saying, though! It seems that it has just GROWN - much like everything else, I suppose. I mean I can still remember "wandering" through Spectacle of Lights, and walking right up to a kiosk during Food & Wine....so yeah....

It seems I got my 3 and 5 muddled up

People start to line up from about 5am, some get there earlier or are there all night to be front of line.

Hollywood Studios official opening time is 8am, but the park starts letting Guests enter from 7.15am.

Disney Resort buses start collecting Guests for Hollywood Studios at 6.45.

Last year there was a 5 hour plus wait for the Merchandise Tent on the first day.

There is supposed to be limited merchandise available at other outlets as well.

Perhaps that's what it is? We weren't there on opening day, if I recall , it was probably closer towards the middle-end. And yes, I do recall seeing a VERY limited selection of items at the Star Tours gift shop (Tatooine Traders?) and also over near the the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids! play area.

I cannot IMAGINE being there that early!
